Ferdinandshof lies in an extensive lowland area between the Ueckermünder Heath and the Friedländer Great Meadow. The town’s history, the local history room in the Brandstall and various cycling routes give the place its different facets. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus primarily on the landscape and water, cultural history or a cycling tour.

Lowlands and waterways

Several drainage ditches from the former moorland converge at Ferdinandshof. These include the Landgraben and Fleethgraben. Water from the former moor flows via the dredged Zarow into the Szczecin Lagoon. The landscape can therefore be described not only by its location between heath and great meadow, but also by the waterways that meet here. If you are interested in the landscape and how its waterways connect, these details about the area offer a concrete way to understand its character.

Church and local history

The Church of the Holy Trinity stands on the Scharmützel in the middle of the cemetery and outside Ferdinandshof’s village settlement. The rectangular hall church was built between 1723 and 1726 and extended in 1747. Its design and construction history give the church a clear historical timeframe; its location also differs distinctly from a setting within the village settlement. For those interested in cultural history, these are two different aspects to consider together.

The Brandstall has a different history: it was originally built as a stable complex for horse breeding and the training of remounts. Today, it is Ferdinandshof’s cultural centre and is suitable for exhibitions, conferences, corporate events, as well as dance and concert events. In the same building, the local history room presents Ferdinandshof’s more than 300-year history—from its founding to the present day—with exhibits, photographs, newspaper reports and other artefacts.

Since 2006, the local history association has been preparing and presenting regularly changing themed exhibitions on the upper floor. For visits to the local history room, contact Mr Bernd Vogelsang on 0160 90 86 45 27; a quick phone call before your visit can help with planning. Advent is also part of the town’s cultural life: the joint Christmas concerts by the Haff Bigband and the Ferdinandshof Primary School brass classes take place every year and are considered a highlight of the Advent season. Check concert dates before your trip.

Cycling routes and getting there

Ferdinandshof lies on the B 109 between Berlin and Greifswald and on the Angermünde–Stralsund railway line. For specific train journey times, check the current timetable. Tourists often use the railway stop to cycle to Ueckermünde, around 15 kilometres away. The Berlin–Usedom long-distance cycle route also passes through Ferdinandshof.

There is also a cycling route around 5.7 kilometres long, running from Ferdinandshof to the junction with district road VG 52 near Café 70. To the southwest, it runs almost parallel to the B 109. These details relate to different cycling plans: the long-distance route through Ferdinandshof, the shorter route to the junction mentioned above, or a ride to Ueckermünde, around 15 kilometres away. If your travel group has different interests, these distinct route options can help with planning without needing to combine them into a single route.

Regional perspective and finding accommodation

In the wider Vorpommern-Greifswald travel region, the three nature parks cover almost 40 percent of the district’s area. This figure describes the district as a whole and adds a broader landscape context to the local perspective on Ferdinandshof. If you are planning to visit several destinations, take their respective locations into account when choosing where to stay.
