Heinrichsruh combines a late Baroque estate with the landscape of the UeckermĂĽnde Heath. The village lies in the southwestern part of this extensive woodland and heathland area. The manor house, garden and park tell the story of the estate; a cycling route passes through Heinrichsruh. This gives you several ways to explore the area on a trip focused on architecture, cultural history or landscape.

Heathland and cycling route

The Ueckermünde Heath is an extensive woodland and heathland area, and Heinrichsruh lies in its southwestern part. If you want to explore the village by bicycle, you can follow the 35-kilometre route “From the Lagoon to the Friedland Meadow,” which passes through Heinrichsruh. Its length provides a concrete framework for planning your day without specifying a particular journey time. This offers two different ways to experience the area: the heathland landscape and the architectural history of the estate.

A Baroque estate with a history of its own

Christoph Ludwig Henrici built Heinrichsruh Manor House from 1750 to 1752 as his retirement residence. The Baroque garden at Heinrichsruh was created during the same years. The estate is considered an authentic late Baroque monument. The listed manor house is a three-winged Baroque complex with a courtyard of honour and half-timbered construction. These specific features make the building an interesting destination for anyone interested in historic architecture.

The history of the grounds extends beyond the manor house: a glassworks originally stood there. The glassmaker’s house has survived to this day. The manor house’s garden hall is extensively decorated with paintings by Claudia Hauptmann. Since 2000, the manor house has been home to the Vorpommern Artists’ House. Numerous concerts, masked balls and exhibitions have been held at Heinrichsruh Estate in connection with the Vorpommern Artists’ House.

Park, garden and visiting

The restored park at Heinrichsruh covers around three hectares. The grounds also include a French-style garden and peacocks. The avenue leading to the manor house is lined in part with 250-year-old yew trees. The park, garden and avenue offer distinctive features alongside the manor house’s architecture, highlighting the landscaped grounds and their special details. Together with the history of the estate, they make for a visit that goes beyond viewing a single building.

Guided tours of the manor house were available spontaneously or by appointment. Confirm the visiting arrangements before you travel. This allows you to plan around the actual availability of a guided tour rather than assuming that you will be able to visit the interior.

Torgelow: history, museum and activities

The Christ Church in Torgelow was consecrated on 3 April 1884 and is considered the town’s visual landmark. The open-air museum Castrum Turglowe illustrates life in the High Middle Ages around the medieval castle ruins in the centre of Torgelow. The Castrum includes a multimedia exhibition that opened in 2013 in the Villa of Torgelow at Friedrichstraße 1. It is dedicated to Otto IV, Margrave of Brandenburg, and includes dioramas depicting the life of a nobleman in the 13th century.

At Ukranenland, visitors can take a boat trip aboard the first Slavic boat reconstructed in Germany; visitors must row themselves. Castrum Turglowe’s annual major events include events around Pentecost and the castle festival in August. The programme includes, among other things, mounted jousting tournaments, scenes performed on the tournament field, craft demonstrations, and the sale of clay pots and basketware. Check the boat trip’s availability and the exact event dates before visiting. The Torgelow circular hiking trail is marked with a green horizontal stripe on a white background.

Choosing the right place to stay

When looking for accommodation, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: are you especially interested in the Baroque estate and its history, or would you like to combine Heinrichsruh with the 35-kilometre cycling route? These themes provide a clear starting point for your search for accommodation in Heinrichsruh. When choosing a specific place to stay, compare its location details with your travel plans.
