Discover Löcknitz: Lake, castle and forge
Accommodation in Löcknitz
Discover Löcknitz through its lake and castle: By the water, trails and bathing facilities take centre stage, while the castle tower combines history with views over Löcknitz and the Randow Valley. Other highlights include a natural monument on the north shore, a Slavic rampart and the Gorkow Forge. This gives you a choice of ways to spend your stay, from outdoor activities and water to architectural history.
Lake trails, natural monument and rampart
Lake Löcknitz covers 56.5 hectares, and a hiking trail runs all the way around it. The circular route is a good option for anyone who would like to walk around the lake. On the north shore, a path leads to the “1,000-year-old oak” natural monument on the Rötberg. South of the hiking trail, another path leads to a rampart built by the Slavs between the 5th and 12th centuries. The trails offer different ways to experience nature and history.
Water activities and playground
Boats and pedalos are available to rent at the bathing area on Lake Löcknitz. The facilities also include jetties and a diving tower. From May to September, a lifeguard is on duty at the bathing area. If you plan to use the rental service, check availability on site; also confirm that lifeguard cover is in place before you travel. There is also an outdoor swimming pool with a playground for all generations at Lake Löcknitz. For families whose interests range from swimming to playing, this is another useful point of reference when planning the day.
Löcknitz Castle and historic buildings
The remains of the old Löcknitz Castle date back to the 12th century. The reconstructed and renovated castle tower is open to visitors again. Built of brick, it has an observation platform with views over Löcknitz and the Randow Valley. A staircase set into the metre-thick walls leads to the top. Six cellar rooms lie beneath the keep.
The events calendar may also help with planning: regular and new events and projects take place in the castle courtyard and historic buildings, including markets, an open-air concert and a medieval castle festival. If you would like to plan your visit around a particular festival, check the event dates in advance.
Gorkow Forge and cycle route
The Gorkow Forge is in Gorkow, a district of Löcknitz. It was built in 1865 and extensively renovated in 1999. The Löcknitz–Dorothenwalde–Rothenklempenow cycle route passes right by the forge, making it a convenient landmark to include in your route planning. Barbecues around an open fire can be held at the forge—a different kind of activity from the trails and water facilities around the lake.
Getting here and choosing accommodation
Löcknitz is served by the Hamburg–Rostock–Stettin railway line. Check the timetable for your specific train journey. By car, Löcknitz is accessible via the A 11 between Berlin and Stettin, the A 20 between Lübeck and Stettin, and the B 104. The B 104 is one of the main roads to and from Poland.
If you are looking for accommodation in Löcknitz, your main interests can guide your search: the lake and circular trail, the bathing area, the castle or the cycling route by the forge each appeal to different visitors. Check which location best suits the places you plan to visit when comparing specific options. This way, you can choose accommodation based on the experiences you want to shape your stay.
