Mönkebude lies on the Szczecin Lagoon, at the northeastern edge of the roughly 125 km², forest-rich “Haffküste” landscape conservation area. The lagoon, forest landscape and local history offer different focal points for a stay: you may be interested in water sports and nature watching, want to plan hiking activities, or learn more about the town’s development.

Experience the lagoon landscape and nature

The Szczecin Lagoon near Mönkebude offers many opportunities for water sports and nature watching. The nearby landscape is not just about the water: Mönkebude lies at the northeastern edge of the forest-rich Haffküste. When planning, you can decide whether experiences on the lagoon or nature watching should be the focus of your stay.

Hiking and outdoor activities

Hiking activities in Mönkebude include herb walks with Kräuterlieschen and night walks for children with foresters in the Mönkebude Forest. If you are planning to attend one of these events, check the specific dates before your trip. The Mönkebude dyke run has been a popular run along the scenic coast for years. If the race is important to your stay, it is also advisable to confirm the date in advance.

You can get information about a Nordic fitness park from the Mönkebude Tourist Information Office, which also lends out walking poles. When planning an active stay, you therefore have a point of contact for information about the park as well as a way to borrow walking poles.

Mönkebude’s church and history

The Heimatmuseum Fischerstube documents the history of Mönkebude, its development into a seaside resort, and the first recorded mention of the town through facts and photographs: in 1244 it was named “Doblowitz,” an old Slavic settlement. St. Peter’s Church offers another historical point of reference. It was built in 1933–1934 to a design by architect Rudolf Sack of Stettin. The historical picture thus brings together Mönkebude’s early recorded mention and a 20th-century church building.

Plan the right stay

When looking for accommodation, you can first decide what you would like to shape your stay: nature watching and water sports on the lagoon, a hiking activity, the dyke run or local history. If an event or the ferry crossing is the deciding factor, take its date or operating conditions into account when planning. If the lagoon, landscape or museum is what interests you most, you can tailor your search to the experiences you want to include during your stay.
