Tondorf combines a rich church history and a historic village center with routes for cyclists and hikers. St. Lambertus, the lanes lined with historic farmsteads, and local festivals give your stay a cultural dimension. There are also cycling routes around the village for road bikes, mountain bikes, and trekking bikes, as well as hiking trails.

Church, village center, and chapel

St. Lambertus was built in 1812 on the site of an earlier church. The church also preserves older details: two bells date from 1495 and 1497; both were cast by Johann Schursgyn of Cologne. The organ, too, brings together different periods. It was newly built in 2006, using the historic facade of the former Gebrüder Müller organ from the 19th century. The organ has 14 sounding stops and 20 stop knobs.

The historic village center of Tondorf lies below the church. Narrow lanes are lined with historic farmsteads. The Marienkapelle houses a statue of the Virgin Mary that once adorned the Marian altar at St. Lambertus. The church, chapel, and farmsteads offer different glimpses into the village’s history: from the bells and organ to the statue of the Virgin Mary and the traditional buildings of the village center.

Forest festival and fair

The forest festival has been held annually on the third weekend of July in Mühlenhecken since the 1970s. The fair is celebrated annually on the third weekend of September and opens with a procession of village residents. The procession is led by the Junggesellenverein and village musicians, with the fire brigade accompanying it. The two festivals therefore take place at different times of year and offer different dates to plan a visit around. If you would like to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the event date before making arrangements.

Archaeology and themed trails in Nettersheim

In Nettersheim, parts of a Roman settlement and the Roman road have been made visible to visitors at the Archaeological Landscape Park. The circular trail is about 4.5 kilometers long, includes eight stops, and starts at the Eifel Nature Center. Partial reconstructions bring the results of excavations at the vicus of Nettersheim to life.

The trails in Nettersheim also offer different points of interest. Via Velo is a 22.5-kilometer circular route with an estimated travel time of about two to three hours; the Eifel Nature Center and tourist information office can be chosen as a starting point. The 20-kilometer Eifel Herb Trail leads from the Eifelsteig in Nettersheim to Bad Münstereifel and introduces hikers to local herbs and plants through all their senses. From the Eifel Nature Center, various themed trails also provide access on foot or by bike to orchid meadows, Roman temples, and fossil-rich areas. Nettersheim can be reached by train on the Cologne–Trier Eifel railway line.
