Explore Lippetal through its river meadows: the Lippe and Ahse floodplains offer landscapes to experience and opportunities to observe nature. Cycling routes and guided tours provide further thematic ways to explore the area. When choosing accommodation, it may therefore be important to decide whether you want to focus your trip on observing nature, cycling or a guided tour.

River meadows and birdlife

West of Lippborg, you can experience the changing character of the Lippe floodplain. During high water, the extensive grasslands and bodies of water are completely submerged; as the water level falls, still waters and damp hollows attract numerous bird species. The landscape therefore takes on different appearances depending on the water level: first, flooded areas, followed by still waters and damp lowlands. If you enjoy observing nature, you can focus on how the landscape changes.

The nine-metre-high observation tower near Hultrop offers wide-ranging views over the Ahsewiesen nature reserve between Hultrop and Wiltrop. As a viewpoint, it offers a different perspective from observing the still waters and damp hollows.

Cycling routes and guided tours

When cycling, you can choose between routes of different lengths. The Auenland Cycle Route runs through the Lippe floodplains and the adjacent Ahsewiesen to the south. It covers almost 70 kilometres, extends 37 kilometres from east to west, and connects 14 places to observe nature and rest. The 295-kilometre Römer-Lippe Route runs from Detmold to Xanten and passes through Lippetal. By comparison, it is considerably longer than the Auenland Cycle Route.

Further afield in the region, the 100 Castles Route covers 960 kilometres through the MĂĽnsterland. It therefore offers a different scale of route from those that pass through Lippetal.

Culture in the wider Soest destination

With information panels, large-format texts, photographs, graphics and a model of the town, the Osthofentormuseum provides an overview of the town’s more than 1,000-year history and its topographical development. The Museum Wilhelm Morgner with RAUM SCHROTH presents changing exhibitions as well as a permanent exhibition devoted to Soest Expressionist Wilhelm Morgner.

The LiebesLeben_Museum in Soest describes itself as a modern science centre: taking part, interacting, experimenting and learning are at the forefront. It is aimed at people of all ages from 5 to 95.
