Wörrstadt between town history and Neuborn
Accommodation in Wörrstadt
Wörrstadt brings together historic sites, trails through vineyards and the small wooded area of Neuborn. You can shape your trip in different ways: take a guided tour of buildings and monuments, spend time outdoors or go hiking and cycling.
Experience the town’s history on a walking tour
The guided historical tour is about 2.1 kilometres long and takes approximately two hours. Its stops include the old church, the remains of the town castle, the well-preserved medieval double rampart and ditch defences, the Bleichenviertel, local monuments and the Neunröhrenbrunnen. The fountain dates from 1608; spring water from the Mühlbach flows through its nine spouts.
The Laurentiuskirche also has several historic features. The Protestant church dates back to a Romanesque basilica from the 12th century; parts of the nave walls remain. Inside is a two-manual Stumm organ, built in 1759, with 30 stops and 1,834 pipes. The Catholic church, a Neoclassical hall church dating from 1837, stands next to the Laurentiuskirche. Parts of the medieval Ulmengraben fortifications can be seen near the cemetery.
The Tagelöhnerhaus on Wallstraße can be visited by arrangement. It was built in 1750 as a half-timbered building and later converted into a clay-brick building. Check in advance whether a visit is possible.
Neuborn, hiking trails and wine country
Neuborn is a small wooded area used for local recreation. Neuborn Nature Park lies between Wörrstadt and the town district of Rommersheim. In the otherwise largely forest-poor landscape of Rheinhessen, it is one of the few wooded areas; there are also several natural springs. From the Neuborn hiking car park, you can reach the wooded area, the barbecue area and the Hiwweltour Neuborn. To get to the car park, turn west off the L401 south of Wörrstadt.
The Hiwweltour Neuborn runs through Wörrstadt’s municipal area. Its listed features include vineyards, woodland, the Burgunderturm and the old centre of Rommersheim. The tower stands out even from a distance; from its viewing platform, you can look out across the vineyards of Rheinhessen. A Neuborn adventure hike leads to a spring from which the Neuborner Bach flows onward.
For a different perspective on the landscape, try the Hiwwel-Route: it passes through Wörrstadt and offers views towards the Taunus, Odenwald and Donnersberg. A local guided tour begins with a glass of wine. It is also offered as a humorous role-play in the Rheinhessen dialect, including a tasting of four wines. These options provide different ways to enjoy your stay, from a route through the landscape to a wine-themed tour.
Getting there and planning your routes
The Hiwweltour Neuborn area can also be reached by train. On the Mainz–Kirchheimbolanden line, RE13 and RB31 stop at Wörrstadt station. From Wörrstadt, you can also reach the Hiwweltour by bus routes 441, 442, 443, 444, 491, 492 and 644; the Leipziger Straße stop is 300 metres from the route. Check timetables, trail markings and route conditions before setting out, as this information may change.
With its historical walking tour, wooded area and vineyard routes, Wörrstadt offers a range of ways to shape your trip. If you are looking for accommodation in Wörrstadt, your plans for the day can help you choose: would you prefer to visit historical sites, spend time in Neuborn or plan a hike or cycle ride?
