A seasonal lido, the Appelbach and a historic town centre give Wöllstein its varied character. Whether you are more interested in swimming, a quiet break during a walk or architectural history, you will find different points of interest here during your holiday.

Water and a Break by the Appelbach

The leisure and adventure pool at the Schlossstadion in Wöllstein has a large swimming pool, a separate children’s pool, two water slides, a shaded sunbathing lawn, play equipment and a bistro. The published operating season runs from May to September. Check the specific opening days, prices and availability before your visit: the pool is a seasonal offering, not an activity available all year round.

The Appelbach, which flows through Wöllstein, offers a different perspective and a place to pause during a walk around town. A well-equipped pool and a stop by the stream offer different ways to include water in your day. You can enjoy these local features independently, without having to follow a set itinerary.

Buildings in the Historic Town Centre

The historic centre includes the former Art Nouveau district court, built in 1905, the Protestant parish church, the Catholic church and the town hall. The water tower is Wöllstein’s landmark. Together, these buildings provide several distinct points of reference in the town centre: the former court adds a historic touch, the two churches represent different denominations, and the water tower serves as a local landmark. If you are interested in local history, you will find more than a single building here: several named features within the town centre.

Further Afield in the Wider Alzey-Worms Destination

The exhibitions at the Museum of the City of Alzey also explore a range of themes. The prehistoric and early history exhibition traces the cultural and historical development of central Rheinhessen from the Neolithic period through the Bronze, Iron and Roman Ages to the Merovingian period, covering more than 6,000 years. The geology and palaeontology exhibition focuses on the Mainz Basin. Minerals, especially fossils, help illustrate its development over millions of years. Human cultural history and a much longer geological history are thus presented side by side as two clearly distinct museum themes.

The wider Alzey-Worms destination also offers landscapes and architectural heritage. The 246-metre-high Petersberg between Gau-Odernheim and Bechtolsheim is covered in vineyards and offers sweeping views of the Wonnegau and the surrounding hills. White trulli dot the vineyards in and around Flonheim. These small houses were built by itinerant workers from Lombardy. Another cultural destination is the Geistermühle, a historic mill complex with half-timbered buildings and a fully preserved watermill, where guided tours are available.

The region’s trails offer further options for getting active, each with a different focus. The Alzey Art & Culture Hiking Trail runs through vineyards and features 20 works of art and 22 vineyard huts. The Selztal Cycle Path follows the Selz through the rolling hills of Rheinhessen, while the Hiwwel Route crosses hills that repeatedly offer beautiful views. These differences can help with planning if you would rather focus on individual places and exhibitions, or on landscapes and routes.
