Discover Lösnich
Accommodation in Lösnich
Vineyards, wooded slopes and historic buildings give Lösnich a varied character. Winegrowing has shaped the village for centuries; at the same time, a themed trail and a cycling loop invite you to discover nature and local history from different perspectives. When planning, it is worth comparing the two: the themed trail focuses on Lösnich and its surroundings, while the cycling route includes several places along the Moselle Cycle Route.
Winegrowing and recurring festivals
The vineyards include Lösnicher Försterlay and Lösnicher Burgberg. Every year, winegrowers open their cellars and kitchens during the Wine Spring and Lösnich Autumn festivals. So, alongside the vineyards, a recurring festival tradition is also part of village life. If you would like to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the latest dates and programme.
The “On the Trail of Nature” themed trail
The easy route is 8.11 kilometres long, with a stated walking time of about 2 hours 30 minutes. It starts and ends at the Bürgerhaus car park. Information boards explain the natural elements “earth”, “air” and “water”, giving the trail a natural history focus.
The circular trail runs along wooded slopes and through vineyards around the winegrowing village. Along the way, there are views towards Kinheim and the surrounding meadows and woodlands. The route also passes the Sucellus excavation site and goes through the historic Moselle village, past the Catholic parish church of St. Vitus. Nature, archaeology and village scenery all come together on this route.
Free parking is available at the Bürgerhaus car park and at the entrance to the village by the roundabout. The main public transport stop for the themed trail is Lösnich Kreisverkehr. Check the latest parking and stop information before setting off.
A longer cycling loop
The approximately 30-kilometre Graacher Schanzen Loop follows the Moselle Cycle Route through Lösnich and includes Bernkastel-Kues, Wolf, Erden, Zeltingen-Rachtig and Graach. Compared with the 8.11-kilometre themed trail, it covers a much larger area: the walking route explores nature and local history around Lösnich, while the cycling loop connects several named places.
Churches, chapels and winegrowers’ houses
Today’s parish church of St. Vitus was built in 1879/80 in the Neo-Gothic style. Its Baroque high altar used to stand in the chapel of Lösnich Castle and bears the year 1719. The church thus brings together a Neo-Gothic building and an altar with an older connection to the castle chapel.
Lösnich’s oldest church was first mentioned in 1066. The choir of the church built in 1639 is still used as a cemetery chapel. Other features of the village include the Kesselstatt administrative building, now used as a rectory, old half-timbered houses, and winegrowers’ houses dating from the Gründerzeit and Art Nouveau periods.
There is also a specific option for motorhome travellers: a riverside pitch has water and waste disposal facilities.
