Orlenbach’s Historic Buildings

Orlenbach combines tangible evidence of local history with holiday apartments in the village. A cross-passage house, a wayside cross, and the branch church of St. Walburga bring together different architectural forms and periods. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider two questions separately: Which historical details would you like to focus on, and which other offerings would you like to add to your stay? Pronsfeld and Prüm provide additional options; check the relevant facilities and businesses before you travel.

The list of historic monuments dated June 24, 2024, records three other examples of historic buildings in Orlenbach: a 19th-century cross-passage house at Kauzenberg 7, a wayside cross on the village road dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, and the residential section of a cross-passage house at Pronsfelder Straße, dated 1778. The two cross-passage houses represent residential architecture from different periods, while the wayside cross adds a different type of historic landmark.

The branch church of St. Walburga retains the western and longitudinal walls of a single-nave church rebuilt after the war and dated 1743. An altar from the same period has also been preserved. A beam cross is set into the churchyard wall; it probably dates to around 1760. Thus, the surviving sections of wall and the altar stand alongside a cross whose date can only be estimated approximately.

The timeline extends from the late 17th or early 18th century to the 19th century. Between them are the 1743 single-nave church and the residential section dated 1778—a sequence that makes several periods of local history visible side by side. If you are interested in architectural history, you will find not just one historical feature here, but a range of architectural forms and memorials.
