Art and culture, historic sites, and trails featuring literature or puzzles offer different ways to discover Püttlingen. The themes range from late Baroque architecture and traces of a medieval castle to exhibitions, outdoor activities and sweeping views across the region as far as neighbouring Lorraine.
Cultural Venues and Historic Traces
After its restoration, the Stückguthalle reopened in 2004 as an arts and cultural venue. The historic railway station complex in Püttlingen was also restored and converted into a cultural centre. The restoration complied with heritage conservation requirements. Exhibitions change regularly there, showcasing works by artists from the Köllertal.
The late Baroque Püttlingen manor house is a hunting lodge built around 1790 on the site of the old Püttlingen Castle. Together with the Witch Tower, marked castle remains and the town hall, it forms part of the architectural setting of the central town park today. The surviving Witch Tower is a later prison tower that stood outside the medieval castle’s outer wall. Its underground cell is associated with the imprisonment and execution of 14 women accused of witchcraft between around 1580 and 1600.
Bucherbach Castle was built by the Counts of Saarbrücken to secure their rule in the middle Köllertal and administer their local estates. Following extensive restoration in 1982/84 and 2011, the castle became an event venue in the centre of Köllerbach, hosting festivals and other events. Its history thus links a medieval seat of power with later restoration and cultural use.
The Saarland Clock Museum traces the development of timekeeping from antiquity to the present day. St Martin’s Parish Church in Köllerbach offers a different historical perspective and is one of the oldest religious buildings in Saarland. The Heilig Kreuz Monastery was built near the Chapel of the Cross between 1956 and 1960 and is considered Germany’s only Redemptoristine monastery.

The literary trail links literature from Püttlingen with outdoor activity and the chance to get to know Püttlingen and Köllerbach. Texts by four writers are displayed behind glass at locations in both towns. The two trails have different focuses: puzzles at the stations are central to the Denkspur trail, while the literary trail features texts at various locations. You can choose between them depending on whether you would rather combine your walk with puzzles or literary texts.
A walking and cycling path runs along the Köllerbach. The spoil heap of the former Viktoria mine offers sweeping panoramic views across the region as far as neighbouring Lorraine. The riverside path and viewpoint offer different ways to include physical activity and landscapes in your travel plans.
