Discover Plodda: Nature, Forests and Local History
Accommodation in Plodda
Plodda combines nature watching with a distinctive local history. The nature trail focuses on flora and fauna, while the extensive forests to the north and south of the village offer space for long walks. The bell tower and the musical history of the Schalmeinkapelle also add distinctive touches. You can tailor your stay to suit different interests: nature, peaceful forest walks or local culture.
Discover nature on the trail
In June 2025, a nature trail about 2.5 kilometres long opened in Plodda around the area known as “Grassin”. Its theme is local wildlife and plant life. The Plodda Nature Trail features 15 information boards about the region’s flora and fauna. They also offer advice on avoiding litter and treating nature with care. The focus is therefore not only on species and habitats, but also on how visitors can experience nature considerately.
Many of the boards feature QR codes that visitors can use to listen to the calls of the animals described, on their smartphones. This adds an audible impression to the written information and offers another way to engage with the trail’s nature themes.
Forests and walking trails
The extensive forests north and south of Plodda are ideal for long walks. You can observe flora and fauna or enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest. Well-signposted walking trails lead through Plodda. The nature trail and the forests offer different experiences: the trail combines information about nature with signboards and animal calls, while the forests provide a setting for walks and peaceful nature watching.
Bell tower and musical history
Plodda’s bell tower was built in 1869 and has a unique design. Its history also includes a change of location: it was moved about 100 metres to the municipal cemetery using a large crane and a low-loader. It now stands beside the chapel of rest. Its construction date, design and relocation bring the village’s history to life in a single structure.
Another historical highlight comes from the world of music: in 2007, the village’s Schalmeinkapelle set a world record in Plodda. The event involved 33 bands from across Germany, with a total of 723 participants. The date and figures give this event a clear place in Plodda’s cultural history.
Water sports nearby
The Muldestausee/Schlaitz recreation centre is nearby. The Muldestausee reservoir covers an area of 6.3 square kilometres and regularly hosts sailing regattas, dragon boat competitions, and canoeing or rowing events. This adds a regional focus on water sports to Plodda’s nature and culture. If you would like to plan your trip around a competition, check the specific event dates.
If you are looking for accommodations, these themes can help you decide what to focus on: if walks and nature watching are your priority, Plodda’s forests and nature trail are useful points of reference; for a cultural experience, consider the bell tower and Schalmeinkapelle. The nearby Muldestausee/Schlaitz adds water sports events to the mix.
