In Ellerbek, green countryside and a diverse community life meet traces of the village’s history. Exploring the area offers a range of things to discover: a circular trail about eight kilometres long, a historic school building, music and activities run by local associations. The wider travel destination of Pinneberg also offers further cultural and outdoor activities.

Countryside and Trails

Ellerbek’s extensive countryside is characterised by green meadows and tree nursery fields. It is popular for jogging, walks and visits from dog owners. A circular trail featured in a 2022 programme is about eight kilometres long and follows natural paths on the western side of Ellerbek. In places, it runs along Rellinger Kirchenstieg and Pütjenweg. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

The landscape and the route offer different points of reference when planning: the countryside gives you a sense of the green surroundings, while the circular trail describes a specific route with an approximate length and named sections. There are also six signposted cycling routes in the wider Barmstedt and Pinneberger Baumschulland region.

Reading Village History in Its Buildings

Ellerbek was first mentioned in surviving written records in 1464. The house at Hauptstraße 6, built in 1731, is considered the village’s oldest residential building. The former school building at Kellerstraße 5 offers another glimpse into local architectural history: the two-storey brick building was constructed in 1911 and is listed as a cultural monument. The entry in Schleswig-Holstein’s heritage register is dated 6 October 2025.

At the former school, the differing floor heights and window sizes reveal the functional separation between classrooms and teachers’ apartments. The original staircase, historic doors and frames, a period basement ceiling and the roof structure have been preserved. The building is significant for its historical, architectural, educational and local-history value. Its details offer a glimpse of how its former use was reflected in the layout of the rooms.

Music, Activities and Community Life

The Ellerbek Hardchor is a men’s choir that performs several times a year. It rehearses at the Friedenskirche in Ellerbek. Check current local event listings for performance dates; if the rehearsal venue matters to your plans, check it in advance too, as arrangements may change.

TSV Ellerbek offers handball, gymnastics, fitness, swimming, table tennis and cooking. Its youth programme includes a summer holiday programme, children’s sports festivals and a lantern parade; specific activities may vary from year to year. Community life thus ranges from sports to group activities. A service with music, prayer and reflection is also held regularly on Sundays at the Friedenskirche. If you plan to attend, check the current date in advance.
