Quickborn combines traces of its history with nature experiences and active pursuits. From St. Mary’s Church and the nature discovery area to the approximately 35-kilometre Himmelmoor Tour, there’s a range of options from cultural history to an extended tour. To plan your visit, you can first consider whether historic places, gardens and moorland, or activities in the water and on trampolines should be the focus.

Historic Traces in Quickborn

Quickborn’s St. Mary’s Church was consecrated in 1809 and was the first religious building designed by Danish court architect Christian Frederik Hansen. Its Romanesque Revival tower was added in 1863; the church has been a listed building since 1968. The historic industrial monument on Kieler Straße also has a specific connection to local history: it includes the former roadman’s house at Kieler Straße 7.

A fountain at Börnplatz commemorates the historic livestock watering trough from which the name Quickborn developed. The square was officially opened on 6 May 2026; check local information for updates before visiting. A memorial stele for Paul Warnecke was erected and unveiled in the Birkenwäldchen in 2019. Together, these places offer different ways to explore architectural history, the history behind the town’s name and commemorative culture.

Discover Nature: Gardens and Himmelmoor

In Quickborn’s nature discovery area, an accessible path connects the sensory garden with the phenological garden. Check the current condition of the path and accessibility arrangements before travelling. A pavilion in the phenological garden provides information about phenology and current observations; benches and tables are also available. Phenology focuses on the seasonal progression of natural phenomena—a useful way to understand the observations made in the garden.

At approximately 35 kilometres, the Himmelmoor Tour is a longer route for experiencing the landscape. It leads from Quickborn through meadows, fields and small paths towards Himmelmoor. Wulfsmühle, by the mill pond, is a stopping point along the tour before it reaches Himmelmoor. Check current route information before setting off, as access and trail conditions may change.

The 600-hectare Himmelmoor has been undergoing restoration since 1980, following more than 250 years of peat extraction. It provides protected habitats for rare animals and plants. An educational trail features information panels and 15 activity stations. A historic peat railway offers another way to experience the moor. The tour and the moor therefore offer different ways to explore: the landscape along the way, information on the educational trail and a ride on the peat railway.

Activities and Swimming

Quickborn’s centrally located outdoor swimming pool can be reached by bus and train. It has separate areas for non-swimmers and swimmers, a stainless-steel diving pool and a children’s paddling pool. Other facilities include a water mushroom, a current channel, a neck shower, a large sunbathing lawn, a football area, a volleyball court and a bistro. Facilities may change; check seasonal access before travelling.

At Jumping Point Quickborn, activities include dodgeball, high jumps, tricks in the foam pit and several trampoline areas. This active attraction is quite different from the outdoor pool: here, jumping and trampolines are the focus, while the pool offers water areas and outdoor spaces. Activities and access conditions may change; check the latest information before your visit.

Planning Your Visit

Quickborn station has connections to Deutsche Bahn regional services. Routes and timetables may change, so it’s worth checking before you travel. The experiences mentioned offer different highlights: St. Mary’s Church and the industrial monument introduce architectural and local history; the nature discovery area combines gardens, observations and an accessible path; and the approximate length of the Himmelmoor Tour provides a guide for route planning. The outdoor pool and Jumping Point add activities to the selection.
