Kronshagen combines a local history shaped by its transformation into a residential community with public green spaces and a range of sports and cultural activities. When choosing accommodation, your journey is not the only factor to consider: the town centre, its green character and the activities that interest you can also give your stay a distinctive feel. If you plan to explore beyond Kronshagen, you can also consider the wider destination of Rendsburg-Eckernförde.

Local History in the Town Centre

By the end of the First World War, Kronshagen had developed from a farming village into a residential community serving Kiel. The Kronshagen town centre is designated as a group of urban spaces. This ensemble includes the Seemann commercial building and a residential tower block with shops. It also includes the former Agricultural Supply Association building from 1924 and the former community centre from 1910/11.

The collection therefore includes different types of buildings and draws attention to the town centre as a whole, rather than just one building. For anyone interested in local history, this mix offers a tangible way to explore Kronshagen’s development: the town’s earlier agricultural character and its later growth into a residential community can be considered together.

Green Spaces and Activities

Public green spaces also shape Kronshagen, characterised by ornamental and fruit trees. In older parts of town, large plots with many mature trees form part of the townscape. Green spaces thus offer a distinct aspect alongside the history of the town centre and help convey Kronshagen’s character beyond its transport links.

The Kronshagen 1924 e. V. gymnastics and sports club offers activities including football, athletics, swimming, tennis, gymnastics and hiking; activities may change over time. The Kronshagen Primary School Sports Centre has a sports hall, an assembly hall, gymnastics rooms, a sports field and a teaching swimming pool. The Community School/Grammar School Sports Centre includes two three-court sports halls, an artificial turf pitch, football pitches, athletics facilities and a beach volleyball court. Availability of these facilities may depend on bookings or access rules.

The Kronshagen Adult Education Centre (VHS) programme also offers a variety of activities: monthly talks are held at the BĂĽrgerhaus from October to March. The summer programme includes excursions in Schleswig-Holstein, two theatre visits and a five- or seven-day trip. The programme may change from year to year; check the current dates for your travel period.

The Wider Destination: Rendsburg-Eckernförde

The wider destination of Rendsburg-Eckernförde offers plenty to explore beyond Kronshagen. The district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde has 55 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline and a signposted network of 1,000 kilometres of cycle routes; it is also home to four nature parks. The 180-kilometre Nature Park Hiking Trail runs through these four nature parks. In good weather, the 98-metre-high Aschberg offers panoramic views extending to the Kiel Canal, Eckernförde Bay and the state capital, Kiel.

This gives you different perspectives to consider when planning your trip: Kronshagen’s local history, green spaces and sports on the one hand, and the coast, cycling routes and nature parks of the wider destination on the other. You can choose the location that best suits your travel plans.
