Hasbergen brings together nature, craftsmanship and remembrance: the wooded Hüggel and the “Zur Schönen Aussicht” (Beautiful View) viewpoint showcase the landscape and geology; at Niehenke Pottery, the manager personally guides visitors through the old and new workshops; and at Augustaschacht, visitors encounter the history of the labour education camp and the design of the memorial. These different highlights help you plan your stay around your own interests.

HĂĽggel: Views and Trails

Hüggel is a wooded ridge between the municipalities of Hasbergen and Hagen am Teutoburger Wald. It reaches around 225.6 metres above sea level. From the “Zur Schönen Aussicht” viewpoint, you can see across Hüggel and the municipality of Hasbergen. The viewpoint is on the Hüggel circular hiking trail and the Geological Nature Trail; both trails can be reached from the “Roter Berg” hiking car park. This makes the viewpoint a place where scenic views meet a geological theme. If you are planning a hike, check the trail conditions, as they may vary.

Craftsmanship at Niehenke Pottery

At Niehenke Pottery, manager Bernhard personally guides visitors through the old and new workshops. The tour makes both workshops part of the visit and connects the business’s name with a hands-on encounter with the craft of pottery. Guided tours are available; check the arrangements with the pottery before you travel.

Augustaschacht: History and Remembrance

Augustaschacht brings together different traces of local history. During the Second World War, the pumping house at Augustaschacht served as a labour education camp. At Augustaschacht, artist Volker Johannes Trieb mounted charred tree stumps, several metres long, on the exterior walls; above Augustaschacht stands a memorial made of rusted metal stelae. The Hüggel’s industrial history is also visible: the Augustaschacht pumping station building has been preserved almost unchanged as a significant monument to ore mining.

The visitor facilities are also important when planning a visit. The Augustaschacht Memorial can be visited barrier-free, with the exception of the third upper floor; check this information before your visit. The memorial sites offer guided tours and workshops, and advance booking is requested. Confirm the current programme and booking details in advance.

Leisure Activities in Hasbergen

Freizeitland Hasbergen offers a sauna complex, squash facilities, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, and two bowling alleys. The options range from sauna and squash to tennis and bowling; the tennis facilities explicitly include both indoor and outdoor courts. If you are planning a visit, confirm that the facilities are currently operating before you travel, as the offer may change.

Hasbergen Natural Swimming Pool offers a large sunbathing lawn for relaxing and sunbathing. Alongside the sports and leisure facilities, it also provides a place for a quieter break. Take the pool’s current operating status into account when planning.

Another Geological Highlight in the OsnabrĂĽck Destination

Within the wider OsnabrĂĽck destination, Bad Essen-Barkhausen offers a different geological focus from HĂĽggel in Hasbergen. At the Bad Essen-Barkhausen dinosaur tracks, fossilised footprints can be seen on a steep rock face; the visitor area includes two dinosaur replicas, detailed information boards and a circular trail. The signposted Dinosaur Trail is a 16-kilometre circular hiking route. The views across HĂĽggel and the search for geological traces in Bad Essen-Barkhausen thus represent different themes within the OsnabrĂĽck destination.
