Dikes and polders shape the character of Teldau. The landscape stretches from the church in Blücher through Besitz to the Elbe and is a valuable cultural landscape within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve River Landscape Elbe M-V. Cycling, hiking and the history of individual places give a stay here a variety of distinctive touches.

Experience the landscape of dikes and polders

The Teldau and the Sudeniederung are ideal for a cycling tour. A hike offers a way to explore both through the polder landscape. This gives you a specific choice when planning your day: would you like to cycle or discover the landscape on foot? Both activities are directly connected to the dikes and polders.

At the Sude Bridge near Gothmann, the circular route continues either along the Elbe Cycle Route or via Gothmann into the Teldau. In the Teldau area, the Elbe Cycle Route continues along the Boize dike to the Elbe. These waypoints provide a clear framework for planning your route: the turnoff near Gothmann and the section along the Boize dike mark distinct stretches to help you find your way.

Local food and history

Gülzer Geißen makes goat’s cheese by hand using traditional methods, exclusively from the milk of its own goats. The cheese is sold only at the market stall and directly from the farm. If you would like to include it in your travel plans, you can take these two sales options into account.

The Bandekow Chapel adds a historical touch. According to Schlie, it dates from the time of Ratzeburg Bishop Detlev von Parkentin (1395 to 1419). The chapel survived a fire that destroyed 26 village buildings; only the chapel itself and Heinrich Ritzke’s house remained. Local history thus brings together a specific historical date and the memory of a devastating event.

Culture in the wider destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim

In the wider destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim, Ludwigslust Palace offers a different cultural focus. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and, together with its park and town, forms an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The almost completely preserved late Baroque town layout includes a former court church and an English-style landscape park. The palace showcases art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries.

The museum in Dömitz Fortress is also part of the cultural offering in the wider destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim. It covers the history of the fortress and town, the history of the Elbe, harbour and bridges, Fritz Reuter, as well as special exhibitions and art exhibitions. Since special exhibitions may change, it is advisable to check the current programme before visiting.
