Gültz sparks curiosity with a range of cultural attractions: Lenné Park, Gültz village church and the history of Gültz Castle. Landscaped grounds, historic furnishings and regular musical evenings each offer a distinct experience. You can tailor your stay to what interests you most: park design, church architecture or castle culture.

Lenné Park and its bodies of water

Peter Joseph Lenné designed Lenné Park as an English landscape garden. Its ponds each have their own character: Rose Pond has a small island, while a striking peninsula at Wind Harp Pond offers beautiful views. Comparing the two waterscapes draws attention to their different forms—one with a small island, the other with a peninsula and its views.

Visits to Lenné Park are possible as part of guided tours or events. Check the relevant dates before travelling. The park is protected as a garden monument under Section 2 of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Monument Protection Act; the first restoration work began in 2021. The park thus brings together the history of its design and the first steps in its restoration.

Gültz village church: architectural history and furnishings

The plastered fieldstone chancel of Gültz village church dates back to the 13th century. Later centuries are reflected in its furnishings: the pulpit, from the first half of the 17th century, features reliefs of the Evangelists. The organ was built in 1880 by the Barnim Grüneberg workshop in Stettin.

The cemetery surrounding the church is also part of its historical context. It contains an extensive burial ground belonging to the Maltzahn family. The chancel, pulpit, organ and family burial ground each represent different aspects of the area’s architectural, artistic and local history. For travellers interested in culture, this offers a multifaceted subject that goes beyond any single architectural detail.

Gültz Castle and its cultural offerings

Gültz Castle was built between 1868 and 1872 to designs by Georg Daniel for Helmuth Freiherr von Maltzahn. The Hall of Mirrors can accommodate up to 120 guests. Gültz Castle regularly opens its doors for musical evenings and offers guided day trips to castles and manor houses between the Tollense Valley and the Baltic Sea.

The historical details, the hall and the musical evenings offer different ways to plan your trip: you can focus on architectural history and the cultural programme, or make a guided tour a highlight in its own right. If you plan to visit the park or attend a musical evening, check the relevant dates before travelling.

Mecklenburg Lake District: nature as another focus

In the wider destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District, Müritz National Park offers a distinct nature experience. It is part of the Mecklenburg Lake District and is characterised by forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows. Its hiking trail explores the park’s landscape types and special features over nine stages: it runs alongside lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel.

Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through Müritz National Park, including guided visits to the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest at Serrahn and tours from the water. This gives you different options for planning your trip: Gültz’s cultural attractions, or the landscapes and nature experiences of the wider destination.
