Boock is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Lindenstraße, the village’s main street, offers a characteristic glimpse of the place: lime trees line the road, alongside flowering front gardens. Architectural history, Fastelabend and the local heritage museum add further themes to a stay – from the village church to a living tradition, and the crafts and agricultural work of earlier times.

Village Church and Fastelabend

Boock’s village church is a fieldstone church dating from around 1500. It was extended to the west in the second half of the 18th century, and the tower was added in the 19th century. Its architectural history thus spans several centuries. For visitors interested in historic buildings, these changes made at different times offer a concrete starting point for learning more about the church.

Fastelabend is also part of local tradition: the Boocker Dörpschaft keeps the custom alive, and its members portray figures from rural life in the 15th century. Two different ways of exploring the village’s history are therefore in focus: the development of a building and a tradition whose figures evoke life in the countryside in earlier times.

Work and Everyday Life at the Local Heritage Museum

Üns Heimatstuf is located on the grounds of the old school. Its presentation of life and work in earlier times spans two buildings and several rooms. The collection at the Boock local heritage museum includes craft items related to baking, tailoring and shoemaking. These themes range from food production to clothing and footwear, offering a tangible focus for looking at everyday life.

The visitor experience also includes a 200-square-metre outdoor area displaying old agricultural machinery. The craft items in the collection and the machinery outside highlight different aspects: one focuses on individual activities, the other on agricultural equipment. For those who like to combine travel with cultural history, several aspects of life and work in earlier times can thus be found together in one place.

Landscape and Routes Around Boock

Achtersee is a dried-up lake where small orchids grow. A 1.5-kilometre walk leads from Boock to Kalkloch, with a rest area nearby. When planning your visit, this route can be clearly distinguished from a cycling trip: it leads to a specific destination and has a stated length.

The Dutch-style windmill is about two kilometres from Boock in the direction of Blankensee and can be visited. It dates from around the 17th century and was reconstructed in 2001. Nature, routes and architectural history thus offer different reasons to explore the area, without every outing having to focus on the same thing.

A cycling route runs from Boock via Löcknitz–Glashütte, returning via Pampow and Mewegen. Its sequence of several places sets it apart from the walk to Kalkloch. If you are looking for a meal, guests can enjoy traditional German cuisine at the Zur Goldtonne restaurant.

Vorpommern-Greifswald in the Wider Region

In the wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald, the Randow Valley can also be explored in various ways: by boat, on foot along cycling and hiking trails, by horse-drawn wagon or by bicycle. These options are part of the wider region and should not be confused with Boock’s own routes. Nearly 40 percent of the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald is covered by its three nature parks. This figure refers to the entire district; administrative adjustments may change the stated area.

If you would also like to include the various options in the wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald, plan your search around the stops that matter for your trip.
