Gribow combines manor-house architecture with cycling: the listed estate tells the story of several construction phases, while Route 3, “North of the Peene,” offers a specific route through the village. If you are looking for accommodation in Gribow, first consider whether the history of the estate or cycling will play a greater role in your stay.

A manor estate with a history

The Gribow manor estate is listed and includes the manor house, a barn, and two stables built of fieldstone and brick. The manor house was rebuilt in 1888 under Axel Bunge as part of an extensive reconstruction of the estate’s buildings. So the focus is not only on the manor house: the outbuildings are also explicitly part of the protected ensemble.

After a long period of vacancy beginning in 1994, extensive restoration work in keeping with heritage conservation began in 2002 on the manor house and outbuildings. The estate’s history thus encompasses both the 19th-century reconstruction and a later period of preservation. Anyone interested in architectural history will find two clearly distinct phases in Gribow: the reconstruction under Axel Bunge and the later start of the restoration work.

Route 3 and older circular routes

Route 3, “North of the Peene,” takes cyclists along a field track parallel to the Swinow to Gut Gribow. The route is about 34 kilometers long, or about 40 kilometers with a detour. The two figures therefore describe the route with and without the detour, giving you different options for planning your ride.

Two archived cycling loops on the Vorpommersche Dorfstraße also pass through Gribow: “Where Otto von Bamberg Once Bathed” is 31 kilometers long, and “In the Footsteps of the Vikings” is 46 kilometers long. Both suggestions are old and have not been updated. When planning, therefore, consider not only the distance but also whether the information is current. Before setting out, check the current route and signage, especially for the two archived loops.

More to explore at the historic manor estate

An exhibition on hunting and nature was set up at the historic Gribow manor estate. It is best to check in advance whether it is currently open to the public.

A horse farm was also established on the estate. In 2010, the Gut Gribow horse farm offered carriage and wagon rides in the surrounding area, including to Ranzin Castle, the dairy school in Schlatkow, and the Peene. Before making specific plans, check whether these rides are still available.

In December 2012, the REITSPORT-TEAM “GUT GRIBOW” association was founded in Gribow. At the time, the association offered a range of activities for people of all ages.

There was also a café in the manor house. Check whether it is currently open before visiting.
