Accommodation in Neu Boltenhagen
Neu Boltenhagen combines village life with a complex architectural history and a cycling route that leads into the village through the Ziese Valley. The Neu Boltenhagen cultural center is the hub of village life in the municipality. Those interested in historic architecture and cycling will find two different ways to explore the village’s history and surroundings.
Village church and manor house: history in several stages
Construction of St. Mary’s Village Church began around 1280/90 as a brick building and was largely completed in the 14th and 15th centuries. The single-nave church hall and wooden west tower date from this period of construction. The church is one of Pomerania’s outstanding rural ecclesiastical buildings. Its interior preserves richly colored, partly narrative wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries.
Other distinctive features include early Gothic subdivisions within the windows and a series of niches in the choir’s surrounding walls. The subdivisions structure the windows; the series of niches adds another architectural accent to the choir. There is also a medieval sacristy extension with a vault made using an extremely rare type of ribbed molded brick. The village church brings together different architectural forms and decorative details that can each be examined individually, alongside its long construction history.
Neu Boltenhagen Manor House represents a separate historical period: it was built in the 18th century. The Wakenitz family had already acquired the Neu Boltenhagen estate from the Duke of Pomerania in 1625. The acquisition of the estate and construction of the manor house are therefore two different dates in the village’s history. Together with the older village church, they offer a point of reference for visitors especially interested in architectural and estate history.
The Bodden Tour to Neu Boltenhagen and on to Karbow
The Bodden Tour follows a pleasant asphalt road for about 3.5 kilometers to Neu Boltenhagen. On its way into the village, it passes through the valley of the small Ziese River. In the village, the route turns right toward Karbow. It first follows a slab path, then an asphalt road, and then goes through the forest; after about 1.4 kilometers, the route reaches Karbow.
For planning purposes, the route can be divided into two sections: the approximately 3.5-kilometer asphalt road to Neu Boltenhagen, followed by the approximately 1.4-kilometer section to Karbow, with changing surfaces and a stretch through the forest. Distances are approximate. Check current path conditions before setting out on a specific cycling trip.

In Anklam, the Otto Lilienthal Museum, a museum dedicated to a notable historical figure, focuses on aviation pioneer, mechanical engineer, and humanist Otto Lilienthal, whose hometown is Anklam. These examples represent regional themes in places other than Neu Boltenhagen.
