In Aspach, the history of viticulture, hiking trails and regional culture come together in different ways. From the video presentation in the Torkelkelter wine press, to paths through the town and the Aspach Panorama, you’ll find a range of starting points for planning your trip.

Viticulture, from exhibitions to trails

At the historic Torkelkelter wine press in Kleinaspach, a multi-part video presentation explores viticulture, grape processing and vineyard work. The Torkel wine press and its pressing process are also among the topics. The presentation also covers wine festivals, leisure activities and educational trails in Aspach. This offers an insight into viticulture both as a working process and in the context of local life. Another historic site is the wine press in Allmersbach am Weinberg, which dates back to the late 18th century.

The Aspach Wine Hiking Trail combines exploring viticulture with a hike. There are rest areas and places to stop for a meal along the way; you can also sample wine with complementary dishes. If you’d like to plan a break, this offers a clear change of pace between exercise and enjoyment.

Hiking trails and different starting points

The Aspach Panorama is a 25-kilometre hiking trail divided into a western and an eastern route. Shorter sections and shortcuts are possible. You can start the trail at several hiking car parks, parking areas and stops on bus route 367. For a hike, this offers a different approach from the Wine Hiking Trail: on the Aspach Panorama, you can choose between the two route sections and shorter stretches. The Panorama also has suitable routes for cycling. Before setting out, check local route information and, if travelling by bus, the latest details for route 367.

The Rietenau Sound Trail offers another way to explore the area: it begins and ends at the Rietenau Music Hall on Trinkgasse. In Rietenau, the local history museum displays tools, documents and photos; special exhibitions are held on the ground floor. The museum opens during events. If you’re planning the GUcK tour, you can pick up a free brochure at Großaspach Town Hall. When planning, you can weigh up a tour with a set start and end point against a museum visit during an event.

Culture and events in Aspach

The Aspach Christmas Market traditionally takes place on the weekend of the second Sunday in Advent around Backnanger Straße in Großaspach. If you’d like to plan your stay around the market, check the date for the relevant year. The combination of a fixed seasonal event and the year-round trails and cultural activities offers a range of options for planning your trip.

More things to do in the Rems-Murr district

If you’d like to visit other places in the Rems-Murr district as well as Aspach, consider the Rems-Murr Hiking Trail for longer hikes. It is 50 kilometres long and can be hiked in three stages from Endersbach via Winnenden to Murrhardt. Route navigation can be downloaded to a smartphone; the entire trail is well served by local public transport, so you don’t need a car to get there. This is a separate, longer hiking option in the Rems-Murr district, in addition to the trails in Aspach.

Cycling options also vary: the Remstal Cycle Route starts at Endersbach station in Weinstadt and runs via Kernen and Fellbach towards Remseck am Neckar. It is around 106 kilometres long. Another regional outing option is the seasonal Limesbus Nord, route 372, which runs from Murrhardt via Grab and GroĂźerlach to Mainhardt and back. It operates on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, from May until the second-to-last Sunday in October. The bus makes it possible to hike to sites along the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Limes or take a guided tour with the Limes Cicerones. Check the latest operating days before planning your trip.

In Murrhardt, in the Rems-Murr district, a night watchman tells stories and legends by torchlight. The activity is also suitable for children, who can bring lanterns; confirm its availability locally.
