Offingen combines its direct connection to the Danube with nature trails and a historic landmark in Schnuttenbach. An ash-rich floodplain forest, walking trails along slopes and the Mindel river shape different sides of the town. When planning a stay, you can combine nature, water and architectural history as different points of focus.

Floodplain Forest and Hillside Trails

Offingen borders an ash-rich floodplain forest directly on the Danube, where you can go for walks. Alongside ash trees, plants include wild garlic, mountain thistles, wood anemones and spring snowflakes. Offingen’s many walking trails offer a different landscape: they take you past steep slopes and shoulders up to 60 metres high, as well as springs, oxbow lakes and dry grasslands. You can therefore choose between trails through the floodplain forest and routes through a landscape of elevations and water features for different kinds of nature experience.

Places to Unwind by the Water

A small sensory park with a Kneipp facility, barefoot path and humming stone is located near the senior living complex in Offingen. It invites not only the residents of the complex but also local residents and touring cyclists to relax. The park offers its own way to enjoy time outdoors.

At Mindel beach, the Mindel—the lifeline of Offingen—is the focal point; the area is considered a place to relax, unwind and swim. Facilities include a sunbathing lawn, a barefoot path with a Kneipp pool, outdoor chess and outdoor exercise equipment. The area brings relaxation and a range of activities together. Check current conditions before visiting, especially if you plan to swim.

The mouth of the Mindel near Offingen is another starting point for cycling tours. At Danube kilometre 2554.3, the Radlertankstelle Offingen invites cyclists to take a break; a boat landing is located on the left bank. This means that cyclists will find both a named tour starting point on the Mindel and a rest stop on the Danube in the surrounding area.

Architectural History in Schnuttenbach

St. Ursula Chapel stands in Schnuttenbach, which is part of Offingen. It dates from the 12th or 13th century and is Early Gothic. Its features include 12th-century frescoes. The chapel is considered the oldest surviving church building in the former district of GĂĽnzburg.

A later phase of construction is associated with St. Ursula Church: it was added to St. Ursula Chapel in 1977. The church has artistically valuable stained-glass windows by Prof. Oberberger from Munich. Together, the chapel and its extension bring different aspects of architectural history to Schnuttenbach: the Early Gothic chapel with its frescoes and the later addition with its stained-glass windows.

Hiking and Excursion Destinations in the Wider GĂĽnzburg Travel Region

In the wider Günzburg travel region, the DonauHänge offers a hiking option with Offingen as one of its endpoints. The circular trail is 18.5 kilometres long and runs through the hillside forest between Günzburg and Offingen. A longer alternative is the DonAuwald hiking trail: it stretches for around 60 kilometres between Günzburg and Schwenningen and is the first premium hiking trail in Bavarian Swabia. Comparing the two helps you choose a route format: a circular tour that passes through Offingen or a longer route between two other towns.

LEGOLAND® Deutschland in Günzburg offers a different kind of excursion. The theme park has 11 themed areas and 68 attractions. The theme park and its adjoining holiday village offer experiences for children aged 2 to 12. For families with children in this age group, it is another option in the wider Günzburg travel region. Check operating days separately for the latest information.
