Markt Bibart combines local history with nature experiences in the southern Steigerwald. Historic buildings and a circular trail lead to themes from the past; the observation tower, dry grasslands and Wolfsee offer different perspectives. This gives you the opportunity to combine discoveries in the town with time spent in the countryside when planning your trip.

Between local history and the Steigerwald

Markt Bibart is linked to the southern Steigerwald. An observation tower associated with the town, 20 metres high, offers panoramic views across the southern Steigerwald. Hikes in the Steigerwald near Markt Bibart also pass dry grasslands where rare wildflowers grow. Their flowering times vary throughout the year. Wolfsee is surrounded by a wooded pasture and is accessible year-round. As access conditions can change, check the latest conditions for Wolfsee and the observation tower before visiting.

The municipality includes the districts of Markt Bibart, Fuchsau, Ziegenbach, Altmannshausen, Altenspeckfeld and Enzlar. It covers approximately 3,009 hectares. Markt Bibart was first mentioned in 816. Its history includes the families of Truhendingen, von Speckfeld, von Henneberg and Hohenlohe; later, the town was owned by the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg. St. Mary’s Church was built by Julius Echter in 1614. The former Rentamt is considered a historic landmark in the town centre.

Walking route and local life

The “Circular Route through the Municipality – Through the Lens of Time” leads through Markt Bibart. This lets you combine a walk with insights into local history. If you are interested in a guided tour, request one in advance.

Markt Bibart is also a starting point for cycling trips: the “up and down” cycle tour is associated with the town. The railway station is considered accessible. Check current route conditions and station facilities before travelling. The annual carnival procession takes place on Shrove Sunday and draws visitors to the town. Event arrangements may vary.
