Bad Wörishofen: Roses, Kneipp and History
Accommodation in Bad Wörishofen
Bad Wörishofen has several distinctive facets: a rose garden in the spa gardens, Kneipp facilities throughout the town and a history closely associated with Sebastian Kneipp.
Rose Garden, Paths and Kneipp Facilities
The Bad Wörishofen spa gardens have a rose garden with 6,000 rose bushes in 550 varieties. The route lengths also offer practical guidance for planning your day: the barefoot path is 1,200 metres long, and the local section of the Allgäu Walking Trilogy in Bad Wörishofen is 5.2 kilometres. This lets you compare two activity options of different lengths.
There are 24 public Kneipp facilities throughout the town. Each public facility has a sign showing the water temperature and instructions; individual facilities may occasionally be unavailable. There are also three natural water-treading facilities in the Wörthbach. The different options give you several Kneipp-related activities to consider when planning your stay.
Explore the Town’s History for Yourself
The historic town walk is designed for independent exploration. A town map is available for orientation, information boards are located at the stops, and QR codes provide access to the Hearonymus app. The walk thus combines maps and on-site information with digital access.
Among the town’s notable buildings is the tower of St. Justina. It is about 700 years old and is considered probably the oldest building in town. The historic bathing house was Kneipp’s first men’s bath, where he treated his patients. The historic Wandelhalle was originally 80 metres long and was the venue for Kneipp’s daily health education lectures. Together, these places show different aspects of the history surrounding Kneipp.
The Sebastian Kneipp Museum is located in the Dominican convent in the centre of Bad Wörishofen. It has been open since 27 June 1986 and holds around 7,200 museum objects, about 650 of which are on display. The collection combines a large number of museum objects with a considerably smaller selection in the exhibition—one way to explore Kneipp’s life and work.
Plan Your Journey and Accommodation
Bad Wörishofen has its own railway station in the centre of town, with direct connections to Augsburg. As train services may change, check the latest information with Deutsche Bahn before travelling. The Therme line connects Bad Wörishofen with the thermal baths; it is worth checking the current timetable before setting off.
When choosing accommodation, first decide which destinations will shape your stay: the spa gardens and Kneipp facilities, the town’s history or the thermal baths. This way, you can choose based on the activities that matter most to you.
Bad Wörishofen’s Culinary Mile takes place twice a year, in spring and autumn. There are numerous food stalls serving freshly prepared dishes; individual menus may vary. If you want the event to influence your travel dates, check the specific dates.
Bad Wörishofen in the Unterallgäu
Bad Wörishofen is one of the Unterallgäu’s Kneipp health resorts. In the wider Unterallgäu destination, the Iller to the west and the Wertach to the east form natural boundaries. Cycling and hiking trails throughout the district are uniformly signposted; the Unterallgäu is also home to the Glückswege trails. Regional transport links include the A7 and A96 motorways, a dense road network, rail connections and Allgäu Airport in Memmingerberg. These regional features add context to Bad Wörishofen without equating its local offerings with those of the entire Unterallgäu.
