Discover Ottobeuren: Baroque, music and trails
Accommodation in Ottobeuren
Ottobeuren combines Baroque architecture and music with experiences centred on activity and nature. The basilica, monastery museum, Kneipp Active Park and various trails each offer a different focus. If you’re looking for accommodation for a stay in Ottobeuren, you could start by asking which of these sides of the town you’d like your trip to focus on.
Baroque architecture, concerts and the monastery museum
The basilica in Ottobeuren was built as a Baroque church between 1737 and 1766. The Ottobeuren Basilica Concerts bring together the Baroque architecture of the monastery church, important works from the history of music and performances by internationally renowned orchestras. The concert programme varies from year to year.
The monastery museum also offers a historical perspective on the town: it was founded in 1881 and is the second-oldest museum in the Allgäu. For 2026, the season is set: the museum is open daily from Palm Sunday, 29 March, through All Saints’ Day, 1 November, except on Good Friday. If you’re planning a visit later on, check the schedule in effect at that time.
Get active: park, hiking trails and planetary themes
The Kneipp Active Park offers a classic foot-treading pool, an arm bath and a walking meadow. Check whether the facilities are available before your visit. This lets you plan the park as a separate activity, without confusing it with a hike.
The Ottobeuren Tourist Office offers numerous hiking and cycling tours around Ottobeuren on komoot and outdooractive. For a specific tour, it’s worth checking the current route page. The Glücksheimat Loop is described as an easy half-day hike with moderate ascents. The Glücksheimat Loop follows field and forest tracks, as well as some narrow paths.
Other trails have a thematic focus: the six-kilometre Planet Trail brings the vastness and emptiness of the solar system to life. Along the Glücksplanetenweg, eleven Nagelfluh stone steles provide information about the structure of the solar system. If you’d rather make your outing playful, the Ottobeuren Adventure Golf Park has 18 individually designed holes. Nine are themed around Ottobeuren, and nine more around the Allgäu.
The options differ not only in the kind of activity, but also in what they offer: a loop along field and forest tracks, a trail with a focus on the solar system, or holes themed around Ottobeuren and the Allgäu each appeal to different interests. This selection can help you shape your stay around the experiences you’re looking for.
Ottobeuren in the Unterallgäu
Ottobeuren is a Kneipp spa resort in the Unterallgäu. For a broader view of the region, the Iller forms the natural boundary of the Unterallgäu to the west, and the Wertach to the east. Cycling and hiking trails throughout the district are signposted consistently; the Unterallgäu is also home to the Glückswege trails.
