Unterreichenbach can be discovered through two distinctive themes: rafting, which was once of great economic importance to the town, and trails that reach into the “Kleb” nature reserve. A visit to the rafting museum and excursions along the hiking trails offer different points of focus. You can devote your time to local history, the landscape, or both.

Rafting at the Museum and the Talhuben Festival

The rafting museum is open by prior telephone appointment. It was established in 1999 in the basement of Tannberg School in Unterreichenbach, with rafting at the heart of its exhibition. A detailed model of the former Unterreichenbach railway station adds a specific local feature to the theme. Together, the exhibition’s main themes offer insights into the town’s history and its once important rafting industry.

The Talhuben Festival also commemorates this tradition. It began on 27 and 28 May 1978 as a new tradition intended to remember the town’s rafting tradition, which dates back well over 600 years. At the Talhuben Festival, the Unterreichenbach Talhuben rafters demonstrate journeys on an original raft more than 100 metres long. The museum and festival approach the subject in different ways: one through exhibits, the other through a demonstration on the raft.

Hiking Trails in Kleb and a Trip by Bus and Train

Unterreichenbach’s network of hiking trails covers the entire municipal area and extends into the adjoining “Kleb” nature reserve, where the forest adventure trail is located. This means that hikers can choose from trails both within the municipality and in a named natural area. The “Unterreichenbach, through Kleb Forest to Hohe Warte” hike is accessible by bus and train; its starting point is about 300 metres from the railway station. Check current timetables when planning your trip.

Cyclists also have a specific point of reference: the signposted Nagold Valley Cycle Route passes by Unterreichenbach. Signage and conditions may change, so it is a good idea to check the current situation before setting out. The hike, cycle route, and forest adventure trail offer different options for planning your day.
