Pforzheim: Jewelry Art, City History and Nature
Accommodation in Pforzheim
Jewelry art from antiquity to the present day, a large-scale Amazon panorama and experiences in the forest offer a variety of ways to enjoy a stay in Pforzheim. You can focus your time on museums, outdoor activities or a mix of both. City history, art, archaeology and landscapes are all specific themes to choose from.
Museums exploring jewelry art and city history
At the Reuchlinhaus, the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum displays around 2,000 jewelry art exhibits dating from antiquity to the present day. The City Museum focuses on Pforzheim’s history from the Middle Ages to the post-war period. The Johannes Reuchlin Museum offers another perspective: across four floors, it explores the origins, life, work and impact of Pforzheim humanist Johannes Reuchlin.
The Pforzheim Gallery, housed in the former Kollmar & Jourdan jewelry factory, regularly presents changing exhibitions drawn from the city’s art collection. It focuses on artists from the 19th to the 21st century who have ties to Pforzheim and the Northern Black Forest region. The Archaeological Museum at Kappelhof showcases original finds from Pforzheim and the Enzkreis district. It is located at an archaeological site with the foundations of Roman residential buildings. The cultural program thus ranges from jewelry and art to city history and archaeological traces.
Panoramas, water and forest adventures
At the Gasometer Pforzheim, the 3,000 m² giant panoramic painting AMAZONIA depicts the different types of vegetation in the Amazon Basin and its complex ecosystem. Visitors can take in the panorama from several levels of the observation tower. The exhibition program may change. The building itself also tells a story of industry: built in 1912, the gasometer served as a balancing reservoir for Pforzheim’s gas supply for almost 100 years. Today, it is one of the last surviving bell-shaped gas holders in the state.
The blackforestwave is located in the heart of Pforzheim in the Metzelgraben, a canal diverted from the Nagold between the Stadtgarten and the Kupderdächle. Water levels affect its operation. Non-members can reserve surf slots online for so-called Open Surf Days held during certain events. Check event dates and booking conditions before your trip.
Wildpark Pforzheim is set in a forest landscape and offers encounters with native and endangered animal species in a natural environment. The forest climbing garden, with ten courses reaching heights of up to 13 meters, is right next to the wildlife park. Children aged six and over and adults can climb there; seasonal operating details may vary. Wildlife watching and climbing offer different ways to enjoy an active stay.
Plan your hike, journey and accommodation
Pforzheim is a starting point for three long-distance hiking trails: the Westweg, Mittelweg and Ostweg. If you plan to hike a section, check trail conditions and signage locally. Pforzheim is easy to reach by train, car and bus; the main railway station is centrally located in the city. Check connections and timetables for your travel date.
The Pforzheim Tourist Information Office is at Schloßberg 15–17 and is within walking distance of the railway station. If you plan to stop by, check the opening hours in advance. When looking for a place to stay, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: would you like to make time for museums and exhibitions, enjoy activities in the forest or take a longer hiking trip? This lets you compare accommodation options with the activities that matter most to you, without assuming any particular accommodation features.
The wider travel destination of Enzkreis
The Enzkreis district is in the Northern Black Forest region, in the heart of Baden-WĂĽrttemberg between the metropolitan areas of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, and surrounds the independent city of Pforzheim. The landscapes of the Enzkreis offer further regional points of reference: its northwest belongs to the Kraichgau, where fields, meadows and vineyards define the landscape. The Stromberg area in the Enzkreis features wooded hills, gentle valleys and sunny vineyards. In the southwest of the Enzkreis, the Northern Black Forest opens up, with dense fir forests, forest meadows, broad plateaus and narrow valleys.
