Alfdorf offers a range of ways to spend your holiday outdoors or exploring the town’s history. You can choose between walks by the water and quiet nature observation, as well as a historic town centre, golf and cross-country skiing. If you are looking for accommodation, start by considering which of these experiences you would like to shape your stay.

Lakes for walks and breaks

At Eisenbachsee, you can walk by the water, take a break on the benches or make it a destination on a cycling tour. Swimming is not permitted there. Leinecksee, on the outskirts of Alfdorf, is suitable for walks, short breaks and quiet nature observation. It is not designated as a bathing lake; barbecues, camping and bringing boats are also prohibited. The rules therefore differ: swimming is not permitted at Eisenbachsee, while at Leinecksee swimming is not only unavailable because the lake is not designated for bathing, but barbecues, camping and boats are also prohibited.

Castle and town centre

The New Castle, also known as the Upper Castle, was built in 1602 and has been the seat of the municipal administration since 1986. The park belonging to it is popularly known as the Schlossgarten (Castle Garden). Together with St Stephen’s Church, the archway, the rectory and the village lime tree, it forms a central focal point in the town. St Stephen’s Church is an imposing Baroque building and a village church. The castle and church lend different historical accents to the town centre: the castle links its architectural history with its present-day administrative function, while the church forms part of the ensemble as an example of Baroque architecture.

Golf, the Limes and cross-country skiing

In addition to the traditional golf course, Golf- und Landclub Haghof has a short course with seven holes ranging from 65 to 245 metres. It is designed for families with children and people of all ages to try out, and does not require a course permit or a large budget. Check current availability with the operator. The southern end of an approximately 81-kilometre section of the Limes is also located at Haghof. It runs in a straight line over hills and through valleys. Follow in the footsteps of the Romans along the Limes on the Limes hiking trail created by the Rems-Murr district.

In winter, the cross-country ski trails offer another way to enjoy the surroundings actively. The six-kilometre-long Trail 6 starts in Alfdorf-Rienharz and can be combined with the Leintal trail. It is snow-dependent, so check local conditions before setting out. At Alfdorf-Döllenhof, you can access Trail 2, “Leintal,” with loops of 3.5, 7 and 12 kilometres. The stated trail lengths give you a concrete guide for choosing the right loop for your plans.

Further afield in the Rems-Murr district

The wider destination of the Rems-Murr district also offers its own hiking opportunities. The Rems-Murr hiking trail is 50 kilometres long and can be hiked in three stages from Endersbach via Winnenden to Murrhardt. Route navigation can be downloaded to a smartphone. This gives you the option of a multi-day hike in the wider destination, in addition to local walks and cross-country ski trails.
