Discover Weißenbrunn A.Forst
Accommodation in Weißenbrunn A.Forst
Weißenbrunn A.Forst brings together a distinctive valley floor, fields and local legends. Weißenbrunn am Forst lies on the northern and southern elevations of a valley floor through which the Märzenteichgraben flows; the stream later flows into the Itz. The area also offers local history and trails suited to different kinds of stay.
Valley floor, fields and village history
The U7 Eastern Legends Trail runs mostly through fields. This gives the route a clear connection to the landscape; its legends theme is also reflected in a special stop: Next to the information board about the legend “Siemauer Hexen-Hährle” stands a small, walk-in witch’s house. You can use it to take a souvenir photo as a witch. Those interested in the trail can thus combine the fields with a specific local tale. The Panorama Tour also passes through Weißenbrunn am Forst and is another route that includes the village.
The village name also tells a story. Weißenbrunn am Forst was mentioned in a document in 1317 as “Wizenbrunnen.” The name derives from the well in the castle courtyard, which once supplied the village’s residents with most of their water.
Weißenbrunn am Forst has a leisure area with a playground and ball field, a community hall with a festival ground, and an idyllic rock cellar. The rock cellar is one of the facilities created as part of the village renewal project. These places complement the landscape and trail themes with aspects of village life.
Hiking trails in the wider destination of Untersiemau
If you would like to include the wider destination of Untersiemau as well as Weißenbrunn A.Forst, you will find more hiking and excursion destinations there. The U4 Stegnersbrunnen circular trail runs from Birkach am Forst via Weißenbrunn am Forst to Untersiemau and back to Birkach am Forst. The route highlights the Upper Castle and Lower Castle in Untersiemau. The nature trail follows orchards, while the Querkelsteig is a western circular legends trail of approximately 11 kilometres.
The Planet Trail offers a different kind of route: it runs from Banz Castle to the Sun in Untersiemau, is about 11 kilometres long and takes approximately three hours. The similar approximate lengths given for the Planet Trail and the Querkelsteig make it easy to compare their described destinations and formats: here, the focus is on the route to the Sun; there, on a western circular legends trail. The sundial is also one of the sights in Untersiemau.
The U7 Eastern Legends Trail also provides orientation in the wider destination of Untersiemau: an overview board showing the legends stops is located at the hiking car park on Coburger Straße. The trail leads to the Am Schlossteich leisure area, with the “Pirates’ Cove” adventure playground and a view of Untersiemau moated castle. The playground offers plenty for children to discover. The leisure area also has a Kneipp pool and exercise equipment for adults and older people; benches and seating areas offer a place to relax with a view of the Schloßteich.
