Fruit trees, parks and a distinctive local landmark give Kriftel its varied character. The Catholic Church of St. Vitus defines this fruit-growing community; in spring, the blossoms on the Hochfeld provide a seasonal reason to go for a walk. The Freizeitpark and Ziegeleipark offer other points of interest. Which aspects you would like to experience can shape your plans: local history, outdoor activities, seasonal festivals or connections to Frankfurt can each be considered as a focus in their own right.

Church and agricultural past

St. Vitus is the only church in the district with two towers and is considered a landmark of the fruit-growing community of Kriftel. Its two towers give the church a distinctive architectural feature. Around Goethestraße, restored half-timbered houses and old farmsteads, known as “Altes Kriftel,” recall the town’s agricultural past. Farming in Kriftel was once carried out with horses and wagons. These historic buildings offer a different perspective on the town than its large recreational areas: the focus here is on rural life in the past.

Recreation parks with different features

The Freizeitpark covers 105,000 square metres between Hofheimer StraĂźe, KapellenstraĂźe and Brunnenweg. Its playgrounds include sand areas, climbing frames, slides, swings and a trampoline. There are also sports courts, table tennis tables, a beach volleyball court, a skate park, a fitness park, a bocce court and a miniature golf course. Well-maintained paths, mature trees and a Kneipp pool complement the play and sports facilities. Different kinds of physical activity are available side by side, from play equipment and ball games to fitness and miniature golf.

“Spiele im Park” is a regular opportunity for shared activities: the free offerings are aimed primarily at families and take place on Sunday afternoons in the Freizeitpark. The series is a regular fixture in the municipality’s annual events calendar. If you would like to include these activities in your plans, check the event dates in advance.

The Ziegeleipark’s distinctive features include a maze, a playground and an observation pavilion. From there, views extend across the Taunus and as far as the Frankfurt skyline. The park is also a stop on the Regionalpark Route, which runs from the Main River into the Taunus and includes Kriftel. Compared with the Freizeitpark, the view takes centre stage here alongside the play facilities. Park facilities may change; check the latest information before your visit.

Blossoms and paths by the water

There are 200,000 fruit trees on the Hochfeld. The area is suitable for walks when they blossom in spring. Since conditions vary from year to year, the blossoms can also look different each year. This offers a seasonal focus for planning an outing, distinct from the parks’ play and sports facilities.

The Schwarzbach Planet Trail runs from the Kriftel Freizeitpark along the Schwarzbach to the Main River. There is also a walking trail along the Schwarzbach in Kriftel. The Ziegeleipark complements these routes as a stop on the Regionalpark Route, whose course from the Main River into the Taunus includes Kriftel. The town descriptions therefore mention both a specific route between the Freizeitpark and the Main River and connections to longer routes.

Festivals and cultural events

Church concerts are held at St. Vitus at Easter, Pentecost and Advent. The Lindenblütenfest is celebrated for two days in early June around Lindenplatz. For years, the “MyZiegelei” open-air festival has also been held in the Ziegeleipark. These events fall at different times: church concerts on religious holidays, the two-day Lindenblütenfest in early summer and a festival in the Ziegeleipark. If an event is central to your visit, check the specific dates before travelling.

Plan your journey and stay

There is a direct connection from Kriftel station to Frankfurt am Main; Frankfurt Central Station can be reached in 20 minutes. If Frankfurt is part of your travel plans, this connection may be a consideration when choosing where to stay. Check the operator’s latest information before departure, as travel information may change.
