Badbergen: Church, Farms and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Badbergen
Church and Farm Landscape
More than 340 listed farmsteads are set in Badbergen’s idyllic parkland. St. George’s Church also brings the town’s history to life: it dates from the 13th century, and its oldest section still features Romanesque forms. From 1650 to 1866, it was used as a shared church by both denominations. Its architectural style and former joint use offer two cultural-historical perspectives on the same place of worship.
In 2016, the Artland Horse Breeding Museum found a new home at Hof Elting-Bußmeyer in Badbergen-Vehs. Alongside church and farmstead culture, the museum also turns the spotlight on horse breeding.
Discover Badbergen by Bike
Cyclists will also find different points of interest. The Hase-Ems Tour passes through Badbergen. The Giebeltour cycling route runs through park-like countryside and past numerous farmsteads. One route focuses on the passage through the town, the other on the rural scenery. If you are looking for precisely this combination of cycling, landscape and farmsteads, the Giebeltour offers a specific theme for your planning.
The Badberger Regional Shelf, stocked with products from the region, is located in the Herkenhoff bakery in the center of Badbergen. It is popular beyond the village. The selection on the shelf may change.
More things to explore in the wider Osnabrück travel region
The wider Osnabrück travel region has other distinct destinations that you can include in your travel plans according to your interests. At the Bad Essen-Barkhausen dinosaur tracks, fossilized footprints can be seen on a steep rock face. The visitor area includes two dinosaur replicas, detailed information panels and a circular trail; the signposted Dinosaur Trail is a 16-kilometer circular hiking route.
There are also different ways to experience culture in the region. At the Tuchmacher Museum Bramsche, fluffy wool blankets are made on working machines that are over 100 years old. At the Museum and Park Kalkriese, exhibits on the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest are presented using multimedia and are open to visitors. The permanent exhibition at the Museum in the Monastery in Bersenbrück presents three eras through the history of the museum building’s use: the monastery from the 13th to the 18th century, the district office and administration in the 19th century, and its use as a museum in the 20th century.
The wider Osnabrück travel region offers more examples for nature and landscape enthusiasts. The Bad Iburg treetop walkway is almost 600 meters long and offers an immersive forest experience. Its accessible entrance tower is over 30 meters high and affords panoramic views of Iburg Castle and the Teutoburg Forest. The walkway and its exhibition pavilion offer insights into the geological history of the Teutoburg Forest and are part of the UNESCO Global Geopark TERRA.vita.
In Bad Rothenfelde, visitors can walk 50 meters of the historic Solegang on dry feet via wooden walkways and metal grating. The two graduation tower structures date from 1777 and 1824 and form a large open-air inhalatorium. This is another landscape and history theme to choose from.
Make your choices based on the experiences you want to prioritize during your trip.
