Röbel/Müritz lies beside an inlet of the Müritz on the waterfront and in gently rolling countryside inland. The town combines a strong connection to the water with its own architectural and urban history: on the waterfront are the long promenade and jetties for passenger boats; in town, churches and the Dutch-style windmill are distinctive landmarks. When planning your trip, you can choose between the waterfront, culture and relaxation at the MüritzTherme.

Waterfront and harbour

The promenade stretches a long way along the waterfront through Röbel/Müritz. Jetties for passenger boats are part of the townscape, as are a waterway travellers’ rest area and a sailing and town harbour. These places give water different roles: the promenade forms its own waterfront, while the harbour facilities draw attention to different forms of water sports and boating.

If you are considering Röbel/Müritz as a travel destination, you can see water and urban history as two distinct focal points. The waterfront sits alongside a townscape where churches, the mill and exhibitions offer tangible points of connection to culture.

Churches and landmarks in town

The restored Dutch-style windmill stands on Burgberg hill in the centre of Röbel/Müritz and offers views across the town. St. Mary’s Church also combines a striking location with architectural history: it stands on the former temple hill of the Wendish Müritz people and is one of the oldest brick buildings in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Its transitional Romanesque-Gothic style points to different architectural forms. The first extensions to the church nave, which initially had two bays, were made in the 14th century. Climbing the church tower offers unobstructed views across the surrounding countryside.

The Early Gothic St. Nicholas’ Church marks a different period. It was probably begun around 1250 and is now unique in northern Germany in its unified form. The church can be visited from 5 May to 30 September and is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm during this period. Opening times may change at short notice, so check them before your visit.

Urban history and regional art

The “Heimatstuben” local history museum in the Haus des Gastes provides free information about Röbel/Müritz. Topics include traditional crafts, urban development, legal disputes and witch trials. Different aspects of the town’s history are brought together, from everyday crafts to disputes over law and order.

The former synagogue is one of the few surviving half-timbered synagogues in Mecklenburg and houses an exhibition on the Jewish history of Mecklenburg. Its status as a historic building and the exhibition give this visit a distinctive character. The Haus des Gastes hosts year-round changing exhibitions of regionally inspired art and work by artists from the area. The town’s history and changing art exhibitions thus offer different cultural perspectives on Röbel/Müritz.

Water and sauna at the MüritzTherme

The MüritzTherme offers 3,000 m² of daily relaxation by, in and with the water. Its sauna area includes an outdoor Finnish sauna at 95 degrees, a sauna at 85 degrees, a salt sauna at 75 degrees and a sanarium at 55 degrees. There is also an infrared cabin, two relaxation rooms and a bar of its own. The temperature levels and different facilities make the choice clear, although individual facilities may change. Before your visit, check which sauna facilities are currently available.

Röbel/Müritz offers these different reasons to visit. Shape your search around whichever one matters most for your trip.

In the wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District

The wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District also offers nature experiences with their own distinct character. Müritz National Park is part of this region and is characterised by forests, moors, lakes and vast meadows. The Müritz National Park hiking trail covers the park’s landscapes and special features in nine stages: it leads past lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer educational tours through the national park, including guided visits to the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest at Serrahn and tours from the water.

Also in the wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District, the Damerower Werder bison reserve is located on a peninsula in Lake Kölpinsee and in Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Visitors can watch bison there. A forest discovery trail offers climbing opportunities, an ant house, an exhibition with tactile and visual panels, and a dendrophone. These regional nature experiences stand on their own and complement Röbel/Müritz’s urban history and waterside setting with further interests to consider when planning a trip.
