Carinerland lies between Wismar and Rostock, near the Baltic Sea and 13 km from the Salzhaff lagoon. Its villages offer a variety of points of interest: an Early Gothic brick church, manor houses and preserved village structures, as well as a nature trail, old trees, a manor park and seasonal festivals. This means there is something to interest everyone, from architectural history to nature and regional traditions.

Village History in Buildings and Streetscapes

Alt Karin is home to an Early Gothic brick church with an imposing rib-vaulted ceiling. The brickwork and vault give the building a distinctive architectural character. For anyone wishing to focus their stay on historic buildings, the church is a prominent landmark.

Ravensberg has a manor house dating from the 19th century. Parts of a manor estate have been preserved in Danneborth, including a Baroque mansion remodelled in the Neoclassical style and a large, double-walled stable building. The area’s heritage therefore ranges from a manor house in a single village to the surviving parts of an entire estate.

In Neu Karin, the village has largely retained its character as a farming and crafts village. Rather than a single building, it is the historic streetscape that takes centre stage here. This broadens the historical perspective on Carinerland to encompass an entire village.

Nature and Distinctive Landscape Features

The nature trail in Krempin is a great option for visitors who would like to explore on foot during their stay. The Entenmoor nature reserve near Moitin offers a different kind of natural attraction: it is a habitat for some rare bird species. A walking trail and the protection of bird species thus appeal to different interests in nature.

The ancient lime tree in Moitin is a special link between nature and local history. Its trunk has a circumference of 7.50 metres, it is over 800 years old, and it is one of the oldest trees in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is commonly known as the “wedding and court lime tree”; this name points to other customs of the rural population. The tree is remarkable both for its size and for its locally handed-down name.

Danneborth also offers a green landmark: its manor park is home to old standard fruit trees and a pond with an artificial island. Unlike the solitary lime tree, several landscape features shape the park. This gives it a distinctive character at the intersection of nature and history.

Seasonal Festivals

Seasonal festivals are held in Carinerland, including Easter bonfires, summer parties, harvest festivals and Advent markets; visitors are welcome. These examples take place at different times of the year. If you are planning your trip around a festival, check the exact event date in advance.
