Discover Lieser: Vineyards and Moselle scenery
Accommodation in Lieser
Lieser lies in the Middle Moselle Valley between Koblenz and Trier. Steep vineyards along the Moselle shape the landscape; at the same time, the town combines nature trails, architectural heritage and a long winemaking tradition. When looking for accommodation, you can consider whether vineyard walks, woodland nature, cycling or the town’s history should shape your stay.
Winemaking and history
Lieser is associated with a two-thousand-year winemaking tradition. A specific archaeological find adds to this historical picture: a Roman wine press was discovered on the outskirts of town in the direction of Bernkastel. Winemaking is therefore not only part of the landscape, but also a subject in the town’s history.
Trails through woodland and vineyards
The Lieser Forest Discovery Trail is described as an easy, 3.14-kilometre circular route and is considered suitable for families. Interactive stations explore forest ecology and wildlife; wooden sculptures and views towards the Moselle are also part of the trail. WeinbergsVielfalt takes you through the vineyards on a family walk and focuses on their diversity. Woodland and winemaking offer different highlights for an outing.
The final stage of the Lieserpfad covers 8.95 kilometres from Platten to Lieser, passing through the lower Lieser Valley and by vineyards and wooded slopes. The stage ends near the Lieserbach’s confluence with the Moselle; along the way, there are views of the Moselle scenery. Above Lieser, Heldensicht also offers views across the landscape and other Moselle towns. On the Lieser Alpaca Experience walks, you pass meadows and Moselle vineyards. The routes differ in format and length: the Forest Discovery Trail is a 3.14-kilometre circular route; the 8.95-kilometre Lieserpfad stage runs from Platten to Lieser and ends near the Lieserbach’s confluence with the Moselle.
Architectural heritage in town
Lieser Castle combines an older Neo-Renaissance section with a newer Art Nouveau section. St Peter’s Church features ornate Baroque furnishings. St Paul’s Church stands on the 270-metre-high Paulsberg. These buildings offer a different focus from the trails through woodland and vineyards, and also make the town’s history architecturally interesting.
Cycling and getting around
The Maare-Mosel Cycle Route runs from Daun to Lieser along a former railway line. There is an e-bike charging station at the Tourist Information office, Am Markt 38. A boat landing stage is located on the banks of the Moselle on MoselstraĂźe in the town centre. If you are counting on using the charging station or landing stage, check their current status on site; before a bike ride, it is also advisable to check local route conditions.
