Reich is a Hunsrück settlement at an elevation of around 410 metres above sea level. Its exposed position on an open, agriculturally used plateau offers wide views across the surrounding landscape. Meadows, pastures, and country lanes characterise the area; in the historic village centre, older buildings and historic farmsteads recall its agricultural past. Around Reich, open spaces and paths are thus set against a village history closely connected with agriculture.

The Bieberbach stream is also part of the local landscape. It runs through parts of the eastern settlement area. At the border between Reich and Wüschheim, there is a fishpond facility on the stream; access restrictions may apply. The stream and the facility mark different points in the surrounding area: one runs through parts of the village, while the other lies at the transition to Wüschheim.

On foot along the Biebertal Circular Trail

The Biebertal Circular Trail passes through Reich and forms a 9.9-kilometre loop that returns to Biebern. The tour can be started, finished, or joined along the way in any of its six villages. This offers several ways to adapt your starting point on the circular route to your plans for the day. The trail is considered suitable for families with children.

The circular trail is also considered well surfaced and usable year-round. Weather can affect trail conditions, so check local conditions before setting out. Half of the route runs along forest and farm tracks. One section along the Gossberg first leads through fields and meadows before entering the forest. The Walderlebnis Faas is another feature of the Biebertal route.

On the return leg of a Biebertal route section, there are wide-ranging views over the Hunsrück towards Kirchberg and the Soonwald. Together with the open spaces around the Gossberg and the forest sections that follow, this makes for a hike through varied landscapes. When planning your tour, both the precise length of the loop and its mix of forest and farm tracks are useful points of reference.

Cycling routes, local history, and a festival tradition

Reich can also be explored by bicycle: several signposted cycle routes pass through the built-up areas of the village. Check the local signs when planning your tour. For hiking, the Biebertal Circular Trail offers a clearly specified distance; for cycling, several routes through Reich’s built-up areas are a local point of reference.

The Fischerfest is another event with local ties. The ASV Biebertal has held it annually in Reich since 1987, with fish specialities and drinks. Check the festival date before travelling if you want to plan your stay around it. This lets you include the festival tradition alongside hiking and cycling opportunities in your travel plans.

When looking for accommodation, it helps to use your preferred mix of activities for the day as a guide: the circular trail offers a hiking option with a stated distance, several signposted routes pass through built-up areas, and the Fischerfest is an event with a date to plan around. Consider whether hiking, cycling, or a suitable festival date should shape your stay most, and tailor your search for accommodation in Reich accordingly.

The wider Rhein-Hunsrück region

As a broader travel destination, the Rhein-Hunsrück district includes extensive parts of the Hunsrück, which forms part of the Rhenish Massif, as well as areas on the left bank of the Rhine in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. South of the Hunsrück Plateau are quartzite ridges such as the Soonwald; in the Middle Rhine Valley area, the Rhine forms the district’s eastern boundary. Parts of the Hunsrück-Mittelrhein collective municipality and the town of Boppard in the district belong to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was recognised in 2002.
