Amtsberg lies at the foot of the Ore Mountains, between the rivers Zwönitz and Zschopau. Its districts retain a rural character and are set among meadows and forests. At 553 metres, Dittersdorfer Höhe is Amtsberg’s highest viewpoint. Nature, local history and seasonal experiences offer a range of ways to shape your stay – from trails through the Zwönitz Valley to the crocus meadows in Schlößchen.

Local History on a Small and Large Scale

At Mini-Weißbach, you can see models at a scale of 1:10. They depict historically significant Ore Mountain buildings that stand or once stood in Weißbach. Mini-Weißbach is also the starting point for the Weißbach Pyramid and Nativity Scene Trail. If you are interested in events, you can also explore the village churches in Dittersdorf and Weißbach. Check their schedules if you would like to plan your visit around one.

The Historic Circular Trail explores the development of industry, trade, hospitality and public facilities in Dittersdorf, Weißbach and Schlößchen/Wilischthal. Information boards at around 90 sites and locations – including churches, schools, public facilities, and industrial and commercial businesses – bring local history to life in the places where it unfolded. At the same time, the trail combines walks through green landscapes with historical themes. There are places to stop for refreshments along the routes; if you have a particular stop in mind, it is worth checking what is currently available.

Trails Through Valley and Forest

Several trails offer different highlights. A circular route in Dittersdorf follows the Schwarzer Weg to the Einsiedler Reservoir. The nature trail runs through the Zwönitz Valley between Dittersdorf and Kemtau. The circular trail from Villa Wilisch starts at Villa Wilisch in Amtsberg and leads through a beech forest to the Hans-Weber-Kanzel and the Affenstein viewpoint. These offer different options: a route to the reservoir, a nature trail in the valley, and a forest walk with viewpoints.

There are also different directions to explore by bike: routes from Weißbach or Schlößchen follow the Wilisch Cycle Path towards Gelenau and onwards towards Herold and Thum. If you prefer to get around on foot, the Historic Circular Trail combines green landscapes with local history. The different trail themes can help you choose an outing based on whether you want to focus on nature, local development or a bike ride.

Spring Blossoms and Outdoor Swimming

The crocus meadows in Schlößchen are a botanical attraction in early spring: a special subspecies of wild crocus grows there. A dense blue carpet of flowers spreads over around two hectares. Early spring is a good time to visit when the crocuses are in bloom.

Dittersdorf Outdoor Swimming Pool offers a different kind of outing. The swimming pool measures 50 by 25 metres and has a diving board; the non-swimmers’ area measures 20 by 25 metres. There is also a 44-metre water slide. The outdoor pool also has beach volleyball, a children’s playground, table tennis, chess, a football pitch, a kiosk and a restaurant. Opening hours, operating details and individual facilities may change. So check the latest information before planning a specific visit.

Amtsberg in the Erzgebirgskreis

As a regional point of reference, the Erzgebirgskreis offers a signposted hiking trail network spanning around 4,500 kilometres. The Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region, which lies within the Erzgebirgskreis, has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 2019.

When looking for accommodation in Amtsberg, you can start by considering what best suits your trip: the early crocus bloom, local history, walking trails or a bike ride.
