Norderstedt offers nature trails, expansive waterways, a leisure pool and a range of cultural venues. You can tailor your stay to what interests you most: outdoor activities, water or discovering the city’s history.

Nature trails with different focuses

The circular trail in Alsterland is 13 kilometres long and features 26 nature experience stations. Along the way, you can discover animals and plants in hedgerows, forests and the Glasmoor nature reserve. The circular trail in the Tarpenbek lowlands covers eight kilometres and has 17 stations; its focus is on bats, insects and birds around water and the edges of settlements. Complementing the themed routes, the approximately ten-kilometre Moor-to-Moor hiking loop runs through the northeast of Norderstedt.

The three routes differ both in length and in their nature themes: from eight to 13 kilometres, and from hedgerows, forests and moors to animals around water and settlement edges. When choosing a route, the distance you want to cover and your interest in the different habitats may therefore be deciding factors.

The seven-kilometre Sound Trail has a different character and can be explored on foot or by bike. Along the route, there are 13 sound installations and information boards. The trail is accessible and suitable for strollers and wheelchair users. If you need specific assistance, please confirm the details again before your visit.

City park, water and trails

Norderstedt City Park covers more than 750,000 square metres, with water, woodland and meadows inviting you to explore and relax. Norderstedt also has a network of cycle paths. You can swim at the ARRIBA leisure pool and at the City Park beach; the two options offer water-based activities in different settings.

The ARRIBA leisure pool has 3,000 square metres of water, 15 pools, six water slides and a Fishpipe. Check the current operating status of the ARRIBA leisure pool before travelling. These figures give a concrete impression of the pool’s variety.

Connections and planning

The U1 provides direct connections from Norderstedt to Hamburg’s Dammtor and Hauptbahnhof stations. During the day, trains run every five to ten minutes. If this connection is important for your stay, check the current timetable before travelling.

You can also factor in whether connections to Hamburg matter to you when planning your trip. This lets you focus your search on the experiences that will shape your journey.

City history and culture

At Norderstedt City Museum, the STADT.GESCHICHTEN.LABOR. explores the city’s past, present and future through interactive stations. You can discover these topics not only through texts but also by engaging with the stations.

Kulturwerk am See has a concert and theatre hall with 440 seats. It is intended for artists from Norderstedt, Germany, Europe and beyond. Kulturwerk is also connected with the industrial heritage of a former sand-lime brickworks. As the programme changes, it is worth checking the event dates before your trip.

The Fire Brigade Museum focuses on historic fire engines and earlier firefighting methods. Check the museum’s current opening information before your visit. It has more than 2,300 square metres of exhibition space.

Whether you want to focus your stay more on nature, water or culture, Norderstedt offers several concrete starting points for planning your trip.
