Discover Groß-Rohrheim
Accommodation in Groß-Rohrheim
Groß-Rohrheim offers several ways to tailor your stay to your family’s interests: playgrounds, a skate park for teenagers, the farmers’ market and an invitation to explore the Ried Family Adventure Cycling Route. These range from local leisure activities to a cycling theme. When planning, you can consider play, the market and exercise as separate highlights.
Play, the Market and Cycling
There are currently four playgrounds in Groß-Rohrheim, each with different play equipment. There is also a skate park for teenagers. The facilities therefore cater to different interests: the playgrounds are distinguished by their different equipment, while the skate park is explicitly aimed at teenagers. If you are planning together, you can keep a range of leisure interests in mind.
The Groß-Rohrheim farmers’ market takes place from March to November, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the avenue by the train station. Themed markets with an expanded selection are held regularly. The seasonal schedule helps you plan a market visit, while the themed markets offer an additional recurring focus. Check the latest market details before your visit.
Groß-Rohrheim is one of the municipalities inviting visitors to take the Ried Family Adventure Cycling Route. Cycling as a travel theme complements the local playgrounds and market. When planning your stay, you can consider whether the route fits alongside these other activities.
Experiences in the wider Bergstraße destination
The wider Bergstraße destination offers further, independent reasons to take a trip. In Heppenheim, you’ll find the “Wine & Stone” adventure trail: it is about 6.9 kilometres long and has around 70 information stations. The autumn hike takes place on the trail every year on 3 October, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Along the way, hikers can enjoy wines and food at five stations in the vineyards. Check event details before your trip.
There are also several options for longer routes. The Burgensteig Bergstraße is 120 kilometres long and has nine stages. The Nibelungensteig runs from Zwingenberg via the Felsenmeer and Grasellenbach, continuing through the Odenwald to Freudenberg am Main. The Bergstraße-Odenwald Geo-Nature Park also offers more than 30 signposted mountain bike loops within an interconnected trail system. You can consider a multi-stage hike, a described route and a network of loop trails as different ways to plan your trip.
Families can explore the Lauresham open-air laboratory independently with a discovery kit. It contains activities, puzzles and experiments; visits are subject to the open-air laboratory’s opening conditions. Lorsch Abbey offers a different cultural focus: it is home to one of the best-preserved Carolingian buildings north of the Alps. The abbey was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1991. Public guided tours are available for groups of two or more; check dates and prices in advance.
The landscape of the Bergstraße district brings together gentle vineyards and the Odenwald. Visitors can discover nature in the Bergstraße-Odenwald UNESCO Global Geopark. Local food and drink are another way to get to know the region: Riesling is the Bergstraße’s signature white wine, while Pinot Noir dominates the red wine category. You can sample Red Riesling and other Bergstraße specialities directly from producers, in wine taverns or at wine festivals.
