Habighorst brings together two clear themes for planning a trip: cycling routes that pass through the village and the history of a former knight’s estate. The routes differ in length and in the types of surfaces described; the manor house offers a different focus. This lets you decide in advance whether your trip planning should focus more on the various cycling routes or on the building’s history.

Cycling routes through Habighorst

One cycling route runs from Eschede through Habighorst, Rebberlah and Starkshorn and is listed as 14 or 23 kilometres long. It uses field and forest tracks as well as cycle paths; some sections are sandy. This means there are two route lengths to choose from, and the specified surfaces provide an additional point of reference for planning.

A second cycling route is about 37 kilometres long and connects Eschede, Scharnhorst, Eldingen, Beedenbostel, Höfer and Habighorst. The route is listed as using asphalt, field tracks and cycle paths. Compared with the other route’s 14 or 23 kilometres, this is the longer option. Before setting off on either route, check the current route details for signposting and surfaces.

The former knight’s estate

Habighorst is home to a former knight’s estate with a manor house that had been built by 1673. The estate was acquired in 2000; at the time of the acquisition, plans called for careful restoration of the historic building fabric. The two dates relate to different periods in its history: 1673 refers to the manor house, and 2000 to the acquisition of the estate. If you are planning a visit, check the restoration status on site.

Excursions in the wider Eschede destination

In the wider Eschede destination, Horse Riding Tour 04 Eschede runs via Rebberlah, Burghorn and Habighorst before returning to Eschede. It is about 35 kilometres long and complements the cycling routes with a route for horseback riding. Before riding, check the current details on the official route page.

A path runs through the Eschede memorial site, follows the trees in the cherry garden and runs parallel to the railway tracks, then continues north to Eschede station. The Nature Park Information Centre is located in the station. The route and location provide two specific points of reference for this part of the wider destination.

In Eschede, Markmann’s Toy Rooms feature around 700 dolls, ranging from tiny dolls for dollhouses to baby-sized replicas. The collection offers a different cultural focus from the history of the manor house. Public visits currently require an appointment in advance.

Choose accommodation to suit your plans

When choosing accommodation, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: cycling routes through Habighorst, the history of the former knight’s estate, or the attractions mentioned in the wider Eschede destination. Then compare the location of your accommodation with the places and activities you actually plan to include. This way, your search is guided by your planned itinerary rather than just one destination.
