Amt Bad Doberan-Land
Accommodation in Amt Bad Doberan-Land
Amt Bad Doberan-Land offers a variety of travel experiences: trails through protected landscapes, historic village churches, traditional crafts, as well as golf and beach activities in Wittenbeck. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay. Nature trails and village culture open up very different ways to spend your time in the region.
Forests, a valley and trails
The approximately 180-hectare Ghost Forest is part of the Stolteraa Nature Reserve. Along the 7- to 9-metre-high steep coast, it offers opportunities for long walks, bike rides and horseback rides. The combination of forest and coastline makes this area a distinctive nature experience to consider when planning your trip; you can explore it on foot, by bike or on horseback.
The headwater marshes, mineral-soil meadows and fen meadows of the Glashäger Bach stream lie in Quellental. Alders and ash trees line the stream, while sedges and rushes also shape the landscape. Quellental has been designated a natural monument since 1984. A nature walk around the valley is about 8 km long, takes four hours and includes a coffee break in Glashagen. The route and duration give you a concrete timeframe for this excursion.
The Hütter Wohld, a woodland area about 5 km southeast of Bad Doberan, offers a distinct landscape. It covers 350 hectares; wooded heights reach up to 90 m, with deep stream valleys in between. Hütter Wohld was designated a nature reserve in 1999 and a European protected area (Special Area of Conservation) in 2004. A guided nature walk follows the chain of ponds built by the Cistercian monks. Dates are arranged by personal request; the meeting point is the large car park in Hütten, and advance booking is required.
Village churches and traditional crafts
The church in Rethwisch was probably built between 1306 and 1312. A three-aisled hall church with stepped naves, it is an example of North German Brick Gothic. The central shrine of its valuable winged altarpiece features a Crucifixion scene dating from 1530. The church in Retschow offers another distinctive feature: its depiction of a mill is considered unique among village churches throughout Germany.
Four local artists work in workshops for pottery, glassblowing, porcelain and driftwood in Glashagen Ausbau. Visitors can view and, where available, purchase their work. Traditional crafts thus complement visits to nature sites and churches with an insight into different materials and working methods.
Golf, beach and choosing accommodation
Wittenbeck borders the Kühlung Landscape Protection Area to the southwest and the Wittenbecker Tannen to the east. Sporting activities include a golf complex with one 18-hole course and two 9-hole courses. There is also a natural, approximately 2.5 km-long beach with a steep coast about 4 to 8 metres high. Golf and the beach therefore offer a different focus from walks, bike rides and horseback rides in the Ghost Forest.
With this focus in mind, you can look for accommodation that suits your travel plans.
