Rositz combines local history with places to discover: At the local history museum, historical projection equipment is featured alongside an exhibition on the history of the town. The local heritage barn offers changing exhibition themes, while Bernsteinhof and the “Trees of the Year” park provide further historical points of interest. Churches and the outdoor swimming pool add different options for culture and activity. You can tailor your stay to the topics that interest you most.

Local History Museum and Heritage Barn

The cinema in Rositz’s local history museum is a small attraction featuring historical projection equipment. The upper floor of the museum houses an exhibition on the history of Rositz. The two themes have different focuses: one highlights historical technology, the other the history of the town. If you are planning a visit to the museum, check current visitor information in advance.

The Rositz heritage barn hosts special exhibitions that change each year and is also decorated according to the season. In 2007, the Rositz heritage association presented the permanent exhibition “Everyday Life in Great-Grandmother’s Time” there. Together, the changing exhibition themes and the historical exhibition title highlight different aspects of the heritage barn.

Bernsteinhof: Building History and Events

The residential building at Bernsteinhof was built in 1704 and is the oldest residential building in Rositz. Bernsteinhof is a listed monument; one reason is its well-preserved timber-panelled room. The construction date and the timber-panelled room provide two specific points of reference: the age of the residential building and a preserved interior feature associated with its listed status.

Events are also associated with Bernsteinhof. For several years, the Christmas festival and spring festival have been mentioned as special highlights in the Rositz municipal events calendar. This does not imply a fixed annual schedule. If you would like to plan your visit around one of the festivals, check the specific dates in advance.

Churches, Water Tower and Park

Rositz’s sights include a Protestant church and a Catholic church. The water tower is not an observation tower: visitors cannot climb it or view its interior. When planning your trip, do not treat it as a destination for climbing or an interior visit.

The “Trees of the Year” park has a different timeline from the residential building at Bernsteinhof. Work on the park began in 2010 on a large meadow on Goethestraße in Rositz. The first trees were planted there in November 2010, including every “Tree of the Year.” This gives the park’s history a clearly defined starting point and its first planting in the same year.

Water and Activity at the Outdoor Swimming Pool

Rositz’s outdoor swimming pool is used in summer. Its facilities include a paddling pool, 50-metre swimming lanes, a diving tower, a slide and a beach volleyball court. The lanes and diving tower cater to different swimming interests than the paddling pool, while the slide and beach volleyball court add other ways to stay active. Alongside the local history themes, this offers a distinctly different focus for planning your trip.

In the wider destination of Altenburger Land

In the wider destination of Altenburger Land, gentle hills, extensive forests and idyllic lakes for swimming shape the landscape. The PleiĂźe cycle route also passes through Altenburger Land. The Red Spires add a cultural highlight: they are the surviving Romanesque towers of a former Augustinian monastery and are recognised as a nationally significant cultural monument. Altenburg Residential Palace stands on a porphyry rock and houses the Palace and Playing Cards Museum. The Playing Cards Museum is one of the oldest and most extensive museums of its kind in Europe. These regional themes provide a wider context for planning your trip, alongside the sights and history of Rositz.
