In Au i.d.Hallertau, nature, outdoor activities and local history come together with specific points of interest: the fishponds on the edge of the Tannet woodland, the Bockerl cycle path and a classic guided tour of the market town. You can plan your stay around the outdoors, a cycling or hiking tour, or the history of the town.

Ponds, trails and local history

The fishponds on the edge of the Tannet woodland invite you to take a stroll and linger in both summer and winter. Around two kilometres of the Bockerl cycle path between Au i.d.Hallertau and Enzelhausen run through the market town of Au. In Au, the cycling and hiking trail can be accessed via four entrances: Bahnleite, Maria-Eich-StraĂźe, Keltenweg and Fischweiher. The trail is well signposted. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

A classic guided tour of the market town takes you through its clearly defined town centre, along old streets, past the castle and by the Abens River. It links the history of hop growing with a visit by “Ludwig the Bavarian”, as well as current and modern-day topics. The tour therefore focuses on both the townscape and the history of hop growing. The German Hop Route passes Au i.d.Hallertau to the north, via Zolling and Attenkirchen.

When looking for accommodation in Au i.d.Hallertau, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on: Would you mainly like to stroll and linger by the ponds, use the cycling and hiking trail, or learn about the town centre and hop-growing history on a guided tour? This will help you plan your trip around the experiences that interest you most.
