Eppelborn offers different ways to explore history and nature: a preserved trail tells the story of the mining era, while themed gardens and rose gardens draw attention to plants. There is also a Baroque manor house, as well as hiking and cycling routes of varying lengths and durations. When choosing accommodation, you may therefore want to consider whether you are primarily interested in historic sites, landscaped gardens or longer excursions.

Mining History and Historic Sites

The Bergmannspfad in Wiesbach was a footpath and cart track leading to the Göttelborn mine. It has been preserved in its original form and was recognised as an archaeological monument in 2022. Here, industrial history takes the form of a historic trail. There is no parking directly at the path: park at Outreau-Platz in Wiesbach and walk from there to the trail.

Schloss Buseck in Bubach-Calmesweiler is a Baroque manor house built in 1735. It is considered an important testament to the history of the former lordship of Eppelborn. This offers a different historical perspective from the Bergmannspfad: here, the focus is on the period of construction and the history of the lordship, while the trail tells the story of the route to the mine.

A geographical point is another destination in its own right: the official geometric centre of Saarland is in Habach, a district of Eppelborn. An information board stands 55 metres north of the exact point. Visitors to this special place can distinguish between the marked location of the board and the mathematically exact centre.

Finkenrech: Gardens and Trails

Finkenrech is an environmental and leisure centre at the southern gateway to Saar-HunsrĂĽck Nature Park. Its rose garden covers around 1,500 square metres and contains approximately 3,700 roses. Its size makes the garden a highlight in its own right; the different garden areas also offer a range of themes rather than a single, uniform design.

In the Asian Garden, winding paths alternate with carefully arranged gravel areas, water features and ponds. Fragrance, medicinal and herb gardens show the importance of plants as spices and remedies. Other garden areas offer ideas for designing and maintaining ornamental and kitchen gardens at home. On a walk, you can therefore take in both the shapes and water features and the practical plant-related themes.

Finkenrech has varied, well-signposted trails for walks. The Nordic.Fitness.Park is the first licensed Nordic fitness park in Saarland; its three routes pass through the Finkenrech woods and along the KlingelfloĂź stream. If you plan to use these trails, check the route details before setting out, as conditions on site may change.

A signposted footpath connects Eppelborn railway station with Finkenrech and is approximately five kilometres long. Small signs and arrow markers indicate distances in both directions. This makes it possible to follow the connection using the signage; check the latest route details before setting out.

Tours with Different Time Requirements

The Eppelborn cycling route is approximately 32.2 kilometres long. It runs mostly along paved paths, but also includes sections on field and forest tracks. The Panorama Trail is approximately 23.9 kilometres long and is designed to be completed in one or two days. When planning your tours, take into account both the approximate route length and, for the Panorama Trail, the longer time commitment. Check current route conditions before setting out.

Hellbergbad

Hellbergbad offers an infrared heat cabin, a steam room, a sunbathing lawn, a children’s paddling pool with a slide, and an outdoor Kneipp pool. There are also water aerobics, aqua jogging classes and Hydro Power. As operating conditions and class times may change, check the latest information before visiting.
