Discover Sebnitz: Floral Craft and Activity
Accommodation in Sebnitz
Sebnitz brings together a long-standing craft tradition, local history and activities for those who like to stay active. Artificial flower making has shaped the town since 1834; you can also explore museums or set off on the cross-border Borderless Trails mountain bike area.
Floral Craft and Local History
At Deutsche Kunstblume Sebnitz, artificial floral decorations are still made by hand using traditional methods. Visitors can watch the individual stages of production and try their hand at making flowers themselves in the “Selberblümeln” activity. This gives you the chance to encounter the craft not only as a finished product, but also through the process of making it.
The Sebnitz Museum of Artificial Flowers and Local History has more than 12,000 exhibits, and its museum library contains over 3,000 titles. Its historic interiors include a weaver’s room, the office of an artificial flower manufacturer and the room of a homeworker, as well as rooms dating from the Baroque and Biedermeier periods. The different rooms and collection items offer insights into the craft and everyday life in the past.
The Municipal Collections and the Africa House, housed in the museum buildings at Hertigswalder Straße 12–14, invite you to explore art, culture and regional history. Spread across three floors, the Municipal Collections document key periods in the history of the border region and the town. The Historic Town Walk starts there: it leads through the historic town centre and traces Sebnitz’s transformation from a linen-weaving settlement into a town known for its artificial flowers.
The Deutsche Kunstblume offers special tours for visitors with mobility or visual impairments. There is a lift, as well as parking directly on site for cars and buses. The BlĂĽmelpfad is also planned: it is intended to link former artificial flower production sites in the town centre and explain the history of the buildings and factories.

Trails in the District of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains
Those looking beyond Sebnitz to the wider destination of the District of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains will find further opportunities to explore its landscapes and hiking routes. Saxon Switzerland National Park is Saxony’s only national park and Germany’s only rocky national park. The 116-kilometre Malerweg trail crosses the national park region; along the route, overnight stays are available in hotels, inns or at a campsite. The 105-kilometre Forststeig Elbsandstein trail runs through the Saxon Switzerland Landscape Conservation Area and offers official bivouac sites and trekking huts. The accommodation options differ significantly: the Malerweg offers hotels, inns and a campsite, while the Forststeig has bivouac sites and trekking huts.
In the national park area, blue markers indicate long-distance hiking trails, red markers indicate regional trails, and green or yellow markers indicate local trails. In the core zone of the national park, you may only use marked or signposted paths. This guidance applies to hikes there and helps you understand the regional trail network.
